Why do companys do it - my hubbies pay day changes next month from the beginning of the month to the end of the month. Suppose they are being a bit thoughful as they have offered us a £800 interest free loan to tide us over but why do it in the first place. NO don't answer that I know GREED. |

Not sure they can legally do that!! Plus it will have implications on tax allowances won't it? |

I don't see that offering all their employees £800 upfront is being greedy. Different employers have different ways of paying. First job we got paid on Thursday for the week. My husband used to get paid for a month in the middle, so he got 2 weeks upfront. I work at a school and get paid monthly, though I work termly. However you get paid, whichever day you get paid, its still the same in the end. I don't see how greed comes into it. A month's wages per employee is what the company has to pay, whether they get it on the 1st, 31st or 15th of the month. nell |

Nell I don't think it's greedy to pay your employee's at the end of the month. I just think it is wrong when the company decide to change the pay day. It has always been at the beginning of the month, it's only because of so many complaints that they have agreed to give interest free loans of £800, but they were even going to take the first payment out of that so it eouldn't have been £800. So much trouble made them think twice and they will start claiming it back the next month over 6 months. Some people won't be able to pay their mortgage on time and the building society are going to charge them extra interest on that. I just feel if a company wants to change the pay day then they should start with new employee's starting and old ones should stay as they are. I won't say what they are doing with the pensions, it may be legal but it's very much below the belt. |

Joseanne I think most companies find it easier to have just one payday - bit tricky to have one for old employees and one for new. BUT I have worked at a company that had a problem (computers!) and everyone got paid 2 days late. The company - a charity - reimbursed everyone who got charged for being overdrawn, etc. Mind you, my husband once worked for a company that illegally took pension fund money to spend on something else. He got it all back but it was a faff. nell |

Oh Nell, I know my idea of starting with new folk won't work, just having a moan. Companys don't think what effect it will have on folk that's all. Pensions are safe, I think, it's just they are reducing the part they pay in by the tax allowance. So if you earn say £20,000 a year and your tax allowance is say £5,000 then the percentage they pay will be based on £15,000, but you have to pay your percentage on the higher amount, it sounds like other changes have been made as well. I'm just in moan mood - I've got tooth ache. |

Love it Jean, a day early that means he gets paid twice for the same month - somehow I don't think the firm will fall for that one. |

I remember when they changed my o.h payday from weekly to monthly, the blokes had to ask for sub to tied them over, then the idiots deducted the whole amount borrowed at once out of the first monthly pay, leaving us with a silly amount to last the month. took ages to get back into the swing of things again. jean |

would be better is someone suggested rather than go the full jump in one go, they moved payday to the middle of the month, then to the end.probably too much work though. Will he then be paid a month in advance or in arrears? |

We are always paid on the last day of the month with the exception of Christmas....this year we were paid on 16th December.....that was OK by me - you can only be paid once....but ohooooooooo the complaints.....it was tooooooo early......people would find themselves in financial difficulty....I can appreciate that it is a problem converting from being paid weekly to being paid monthly...most employers give help in this situation and are supportive..... |
