On the sbject of pensions. I dont think my mum fully understands the pension system or maybe it is the post office that she draws it from just being awkward with her. Sometimes she says she has asked for a certain amount and they told her she cant have it. She has to have x amount. And she thinks that if she does not go to the post office to draw it then it wont be there for her next week.I have not really gone into it much as she is very guarded about talking money with anybody. The way I see it is she has an account at the post office and it goes in there each week. Just like anybodys wages or benefits that go straight into the bank. And it is held in that bank account until you draw it out. Or is she correct? |

Hi , If I remember right, she will have to be assessed and then a place found for her to go.. ie: retirement or a place will meet her needs. Also I think if she is in for 26 weeks that is when the pension stops as she is having all her cares met by the hospital, could be wrong but think its around that time. As for cigs and things does she have someone escort her outside? if no and she goes on her own then she cant be that bad, the ward I worked we had to go with them, no matter who! And only if time allowed. Debs x |

If she had Carers in the home then their Manager should be able to tell you what is happening to her pension or the manager of the home. Sue |

I have heard that you have to inform whoever is responsible for penstion payments, so maybe they can help. |

Does anyone know what happens to a persons pension when they go into hospital? My little old lady has been in hospital almost a week. She has carers that come into the home where i work but so far no-one has been to the hospital to see her.She has no-one.I have been going in every day and taking a paper and cigarettes and a bottle of orange etc.I dont want this money back, but i cant go on doing this all the time.I cant bear to think she is in there with nothing and just wondered who is responsible for her money .She surley cant just be dumped in hospital?
