We use a Tom Tom almost every weekend when we go to Family History Fairs, if the fair is over 150 miles we always go there the night before and stay in a Travel Inn, it's never failed to get us to the Travel Inn yet. When we leave the Travel Inn the next morning to go to the fair we enter the postcode of the fair venue. The Tom Tom is great, we enter the postcode as most of the buildings where fairs are held have their own postcode but you can enter the address, even the door number. It did throw a wobbly the other week at Crawley. The road where the Travel Inn was located had been split into 2 sections and we ended up in the wrong bit of road, I entered the road name instead and it took us round the block right to the door. It came into it's own last Saturday, we came out of Oxford and the road was closed for road works, we took the only turning there was as a diversion but the very nice road workers had not put any diversion signs up, if we hadn't had the Tom Tom we would have been hopelessly lost. Hi Willy, We bought a navman last weekend at Tesco-20% off= £127 ,Lee uses it every day and it`s paid for itself already it finds the fastest route from job to job and it cut 45 mins off a route he already knew! We looked at Halfords and they were very expensive compared to the other retailers. Diane:)

Had the funniest drive of my life in a car with GPS. Trying to get out of Brussels in the Friday night rush hour with a totally crazy friend and no map only to find that the GPS crashed 500metres into the journey and we hadn't a clue where to go. Every now and then this Italian male voice (her choice!) cropped up with an instruction that made no sense whatsoever but sounded very sexy! Took us 2 hours, several misses with trams and a lot of laughter before we managed it. Daisy

Thanks folks I will check out Halfords in the morning.the reason that I wanted to know is because is that my wife the navigator (not) is always taking me the wrong way .and when you have a large caravan on the back its not always easy to turn aroundand a couple of hundred quid is a small price to pay for one peaceful journey thank you all Bill

Willy, In answer to your questions. Yes, yes and yes although in cities with very tall buildings, the signal sometimes gets distorted.

We have one for our First Responders Group - I never use it as it takes too much time to input the info. There are some really good ones on the market at the moment, research needed - although I still reckon there is a fair way to go before they are worth the money you pay for them. Tina
