We were in HMV this morning, browsing a big display of DVD's. There was a bloke there kept walking behind me, I thought looking at one end of display, then the other. Next minute, right next to me, he picked up a DVD and walked out of the shop!!!!!!!!!!! The alarms and buzzers all sounded, the rest of us shoppers stood there with our mouths open ....... and the staff didn't bat an eyelid!!!! For goodness sake, why have all the security and do nothing???? I had a 'word' with the cashier, but she maintained a stony silence! I thought they usually had a security guard - maybe he had gone for a cuppa!! Maz. XX

I watched while a man in Tescos quietly and efficiently took all the fresh chicken from a shelf and put it in a plastic bag. Then walked smartly past the security guard. I did think of tripping him up but was too busy being amazed...lol BC

I remember having to watch a video about shop thefts as part of my training for working over Christmas at a well known high street store. It used lots of CCTV footage and what these people were doing was amazing! Some people who do these things are so prepared! I've been told about people making their own bags from shop carrier bags with special linings to prevent the tags setting off the alarms when they leave the shop.

I would have been mad too. Mind you I heard a good one when I was in my local papershop, the Manageress was saying that they cannot claim for theft unless it is over £75, and the police do not want to know either unless it is a higher price. What is this country coming to?

It's all too common now a days unfortunatley. I'm a doorsupervisor and we get a real bad name because of the stereotype. But when you have guys prepared to stick you with a knife over something as silly as them sitting somewhere they shouldn't, then people wonder why we aproach EVERYONE with an air of intimidation. When I'm out and about doing the normal day to day family thing then I rarely if ever step in. I can look after myself but it's not worth it in the end. I have a family to return to.

I completely understand about not putting yourself in danger - I was trained that way too when I worked in a travel agent with a large Foreign Exchange Bureau. I just had never seen anything so blatant! He didn't even put it under his coat, or hurry - just strolled out with it in his hand! Me and another chap were saying that we all ought to do the same - but Jamie's game had to be got from behind the counter! and they say that crime doesn't pay!! Maz. XX

In the 99p shop one day and saw a man sweep half a dozen small tool kits off the shelf and into a carrier back and then calmly walk out of the shop. I ask you they would only have cost a £5. How much was he hoping to sell them for ? Jean x.

Hi Maz, Yes, I too witnessed a theft. I was in the shop when this dark-skinned man took off his coat and tried another one one - no problem, lots do this. However, he walked out of the shop with the new coat and left his old one on the floor. I told two policeman who were outside and gave a description. Their answer was 'there are lots of dark-skinned men around'. Yes, they were right, but not with new coats on. Sylvia xxx
