Good Morning Wattlers and thankfully the wind has died down, but not before causing some damage. Luckily, the only damage here was the steel lid on the pool equipment cover which blew open and has actually warped. We had to tie it down. The fire at the Abattoirs is still going. Apparently it was started with a lightning strike and the hay shed (full of hay) is still on fire. The brigade has been on site all night, poor buggers. Just watching Sky News UK and the fires are even getting coverage over there. Now, onto more pleasant things. Firstly, Joan, I hope you have a wonderful birthday. I can't wait to meet you in February. O Trifley Great One. Sorry to hear about the rats tail, but I think you must have picked the wrong colours, lol. And Princess Laurie, I somehow don't think our Queen is going to share EVERYTHING with you, lol By the sounds of it, we might have to have a martoonie party in Mudgee, pmsl. I'm off to have some breakfast and try to work out how to get all of the wood chips out of the pool!!!!! Lew Lew xxxxxxxx |

Morning Wafflers, hope all are havin' a wonderful Monday !! A glorious sun drenched day on Botany Bay. Only one little giraffe with its head in the sky, lots of shipping movement during the night and again this morning. A commpletely different picture to that of yesterday afternoon, no sign of the wind, dust and dirt - and the beach is looking all fresh and clean. Two little piggys in this place did little except keep the kitchen clean on the weekend, so the pigpen needs a spruce up today - nothing a few trips to the bin with the weekend papers and a few laps on the vac wont fix! I have visitors arriving today, and then a constant stream until next Tuesday. Have to go buy one of those fold up beds today, can put the kids all on the floor - but not the oldies! Oh yes and the plumber is due back any minute to finish his job on the shower . . . not to mention that the reno job on the foyer should be back in full swing this morning. . . teeheee . . . planning a slow day (not!!). Lew, glad no great damage out your way. How did the Olives and grapes fare ?? Was the abbatoir out there not in the news recently with some industrial trubs . . . Lara has just been telling me about a story in the Courier Mail (Qld) about Mudgee being underated for what it has to offer in the area of food & wine!! Well, one can only hope that the Queen is generous and shares . . . . . teeeheeee !! Best get orfa 'ere and get on with the dreaded - catch you all later luv Laurie |

Yes, Laurie, terrible trouble at the Abattoirs. Went into liquidation and all the workers lost their jobs. I'm not sure that they all got their entitlements either. Fletcher International has brought the Abs now and will be re-opening in about 2008, but only for export beef kills. The olive trees have taken a pounding, but the shiraz cuttings are okay. They're a bit later than the white wines and haven't 'bud burst' yet. The Courier Mail is right. Mudgee is truly not recognised for its fantastic wine and food. Yesterday, we went to one of the local olive places and brought some brilliant oil. I also couldn't help myself and had to buy a bottle of the garlic and lime mayonaisse, yummmmmmmmmmmm. Perhaps those coming to the Mudgee Meet might like to talk to me about doing a Bus Tour to 2 or 3 of our best wineries, one of the olive places and then lunch at Deebs, my favourite Lebanese restaurant. I think the bus would cost us about $30 to $40 per head and lunch about $25 to $30. Expressions of interest please. Seeya Lew Lew xxx |

Morning Wattlers, sunny and only a light breeze today thank heaven. Lots to do today. Wash all the water soaked towels, vac up plasterdust from the whole house and clean bathrooms. Be at the hairdressers by 1. Drop the bedroom drapes into the drycleaners and then prune the creapers off the side fence that blew down yesterday. I like my creapers but if they are still there when OH sees the fallen fence he will prune for me,...not a good idea,he prunes to ground level...lol Have a good day, back later Flakey |

Good Morning Wattlers Well things are starting to get back to noemal around here. David is at work today, not sure what the 5 kids and myself will do today, maybe a walk around the Heritage Forest, just down the road from here. We have a cool but sunny day today. Tomorrow my girls go back to school and on Wednesday David's 3 go back home to Vic. Still waiting for broadband grr at least we are not getting charged while they get it up and running, typical story of left hand not knowing what right hand is doing :-( Laurie I omitted to reply to your post about Sols doing a cartoon of your Dad, he is a very talented man and I was surprised at all the mail he receives from fans of Snake, telling him to let up on the character and give him a break lol. Lew glad you didnt suffer too much damage. Hopefully the wind have all gone out to sea by now. ~~~~ to all Cheers Sue |

Afternoon all Yvette, glad Possum is getting you acclimatised to the reds and whites. Lots of good reds and whites around Mudgee I'm told. Lew, glad you only had minimal damage from those winds. Apart from the ab fire are there any bush fires around your area ? Now, to get the wood chips out of pool, don a pair of goggles and a snorkel and go diving for the treasures.. lol... I would love to do a tour of the wineries, had already thought about doing one, noticed in the info booklet you sent, that there are a few companies who do the tours. Laurie, you'll have both your boys home for the weekend won't you - footy finals !!!!!! How is the cleaning Sadie - still get the giggles when I think about it.......... Catch you all later Pam |

Hi Wattlers, I have been flat our for a couple of days, no time to smell the roses. Hopefully after tomorrow I can slow down a bit. Trifley, was hoping I could make it tomorrow but I don't think so. Please give my apologise to Lyn. You could just email the time and place and if I get lucky I might just turn up. Lew Lew i hope you magae to get the place tidied up. btw Neville says his organ is too big to bring to Mudgee. Sorry. Oh Princess Laurie, congratulations. I think you should get one of Nefer's bros on a permanent basis, one of the perk's of the position bestowed upon you. Hi Pricess DIY are you still on the roof. Flakey I am sorry be I too laughed. We have an ad up here for insurance, where a guy has his legs sticking though the ceiling and he is asking where the ladder is. Wife sitting down says she is still looking. Well I could just imagine you and Roy. btw, are you covered by insurance? South Pacific, my almost favourite, but it has to be the original. Jood, did you have a visit from Bill Clinton over the weekend. Thought I heard Mary say something about it. LOL Sorry Mary, I had to get that in. On a more serious note, I hope no one has been affected by the fires. Koralbyn, near here has had a bad fire over the weekend, luckily the brave firefighters manged to keep it away from the township. Those men and women are wonderful and all volunteers. Well, that me I going now, singing, ' I'm gonna wash that man right outa my hair, ' I'm gonna wash that man right outa my hair, Luv SuzyQ |

Hi Wattlers Firstly, Lew and I have suggested to Phillipa who also comes from Toowoomba to pop into the Wattlers Club to say hello - so if you see her please say hello. (Lew - she rang me.) Have we heard from Jude DIY since the lotto win - or is she still up on the roof? I'm getting worried about her. Juuuuuuuude...are you OK - come on down!!!! To all those affected by the wild weather - glad you came through it OK. I've been picturing you diving for bits of bark in your pool Lew. You need to get Trifley to lend you Nefer and the boys. I'm sure they'd do pool duties. Hi Lara - keep safe on the roads and hope you get to meet up with Ducky Fluff. Lara - my OH prunes with a chain saw. It's very disturbing when he gets going. Jood - whatcha up to? you've been very quiet lately which is not like you - glad to know that the wind/fires didn't affect you too much. The lamb's fry sounded delicious. Good luck with the visitors Laurie - sounds like you'll have bodies everywhere. Hi Trifley - have a happy meeting with Lyn. SuzyQ - 'Some enchanted evening - You may see a stranger.' But - remember what your Mum said, and don't talk to strangers. Catch you all later Luv Anna |

A public holiday - oh yeah, I forgot - an exceptionally quiet week next week for me - see no-one, go nowhere - in fact I'm the only one in my family in NSW for a week or so as my dd is going to Adelaide for a family history meetup (her oh's family). Had another bad day - went to get the car out, now that the power is on, garage door wouldn't go up. .. Thought I must have locked it from outside with key, so took the remote and key outside, tried all ways - nothing, wouldn't budge - hey this isn't funny guys, don't laugh :( .. I had an appt 20 mins away, and just allowed enough time to get there. .. Sooooooo, back upstairs turn on pc, get phone number of the firies 3 doors down, raced downstairs, and lo and behold, not one, not two, but three firies turned up. ... They asked if they could go through the house to the garage, and one of them reached up and did the something I was supposed to do but didnt know how or where :( - so up goes the door, slightly crooked, stops, goes down, they straighten it - up it goes, stops - ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sh***t my key is still in the door. .. One bent key :( .. They said I should get the door looked at. .. Fortunately its covered by insurance, and fortunately after a call to NZ, two mobile phone calls and several local calls, I have someone coming tomorrow morning - heavens, at 7am!!! .. I don't think its a big job, I really just want him to check it over (it's never been looked at since I drove out backwards and my antenna went flying onto the floor (yeah, I know, I started to shut the door too early!) lol Hmmmm - did the firies believe safety in numbers???? .. Don't ask me what they looked like, I was too embarrassed to look - one was old. (at least) I left the car outside this afternoon, but now I know someone is coming tomorrow morning to fix the door, I feel confident in locking it up, knowing I will be able to get out. So endeth my day. Jood |
