hubbys employers have said that he can book tomorrow night as holiday but because he never told them 2 hours earlier than he did that his mother was dieing , and he wants to visit her, he can have time off but wont get paid for tonight, how callous,

Julie I unfortunatly know exactly how you feel. Hubbys work never let him have any compassionate leave either. They are a small firm tho. Not even after the birth of our twins and they was in special care!!!! and when his dad died he wanted a week off and was orginally told he wouldn't be paid, however they did pay him. Next week when i have to be in hospital over night, he will have to be off for two days as we have four kids, and I'll need someone to collect me the second day (won't be able to walk) he'll not get paid, so he's plannning on getting me from the hospital at 10 then shooting to work. As we can't afford the loss of wages.!!!!

julie anne, I think maybe the time has come for your hubby to think about the union, companies shouldnt be allowed to treat their staff like this, even if the company dosnt recognise the union, he can still get their advice. jean

I thought everyone got at least 3 days compassionate leave by law? I know in the company that I was a manager that was the case, he should take it further!
