I was checking out my Hotmatches and was amazed to click on one to be confronted with MY OWN name and family. Pls see below

I'd contacted this person before and following her reply had allowed her to view my tree - but not to put all my immediate (and living) family on hers! I don't mind people using deceased rellies. Is it usual to find yourself as a HotMatch in this way? Am I wrong to object to this? (Am also putting this on TIPS board)

If you or any of your living relatives haven't given her permission to put your/their names on then she shouldn't put them on.

Hi Julie I certainly didn't give permission to put any of our names on her tree! What do you think I should do? Also, has anyone else had this happen?

I've seen threads from other's about this problem. Usually the advice is to mail her and ask her to remove them, if she doesn't then I think you'll have to contact Gr but someone else will probably know more than me.

Hi again Julie Trouble is that I don't want to be rude and upset her by asking her to remove our names! Am I just being too sensitive?

Allie, If she has copied Living rellies without your permission then you can ask her to delete them. I had the a problem with a guy and mailed him 5 x's he still did not take the name off.so had to ask GR team to delete the name, They mailed him 1st but he still did not take the name off so GR left the initials on but took the rest of the name off. I had something similar happen. Someone contacted me thinking they were related. I asked them some questions and ascertained that they definitely were related to me and then, at their request, opened my tree to them. Lo and behold, my every entry (even those in respect of different lines) appeared on her tree. I don't mind helping her out with our ancestors, but she effectively 'nicked' my whole tree - including my living rellies. I asked her to remove the living members - which she did, but I got a snotty email back saying she had only used the details of 4 of my rellies! No wonder she's got so many more than me in her tree if all she does is copy everything she can gain from everyone else's work! I never went back to her anymore, but am very relunctant now about sharing my tree. GP

Thanks all! You've given me the courage to mail her and get them removed. I wasn't sure if this type of thing was normal practice and it was just me who was annoyed by it! Cheers Allie

Would make me worried to see my name and family members names on the tree. On this site I only use 'Living Surname' for anyone that is still kicking about this earth. Just for the reason that's happened to you Allie. Think I'd be upset about it to. Deb

Thanks everyone - am pleased to say that I contacted the person and she was really sorry that she had upset me and apologised that she'd got carried away ( as we all can do sometimes!) She seems a really lovely person. We've exchanged a few friendly messages and i am so pleased that I took your advice rather than just worry that I should something about it! This has also made me think what I copy from other's trees so has been a GOOD lesson! Cheers to all Allie x

I am not sure how you stand legally on this one, I do know that if you hand your car or house keys to someone, you are, in the signs of the law, giving them permission to use your car or enter your house. I play safe and dont usually allow people to see my living rellies. June xx
