I learned to type as an option at school - and practised by typing up all my A-level notes. My dad had bought me an Olivetti portable typewriter and I still have my history and English lit notes with key words typed in red to help my revision. I have never regretted it as I've had to type in all my jobs and now that computers are the way forward, touch typing is a very useful skill. Last time I was tested I was doing about 75-80 wpm. But its much easier on a modern keyboard than an old typewriter which relied on manual effort! nell

Quite fast even now but back in the late 60's sat lots of RSA exams and got 75wpm in typing and 180 wpm in shorthand.

78-81 wpm on the 3 times I tried, and thats after several glasses of wine! Took an evening class in typing 20 years ago and though I had a degree and loads of qualifications it was the most useful thing I ever did. Has been a great help in everything I've done since. Angela

In 1960, when I was in the royal signals, I could listen to morse code, and type the text at better than 35 words(5 characters= a word) a minute.......on a basic Imperial Typewriter, or teleprinter. however, since then I have lost the tip of a finger, and the touch typing went into cyber space........... LOL Now its a two finger approach at about 15 words a minute........... Bob well done to all you experts that can type ACCURATELY at speed............
