Well the snow didn't arrive to save me and I have to say I'm glad. Not really my sort of film but I did enjoy it and Nell's comments sum it up. Main drawback was that with the trailers as well we were sitting down for 3 and a half hours and I'm now desperate for my lunch! Daisy

My sons and I saw it before christmas. It is rather long - about 3 and a quarter hours, but is excellently done. I'm not a mad fan of action movies, but the effects are very convincing - apart from the girl being able to run barefoot and in her nightie through a jungle, be pulled about by King Kong and nearly eaten by dinosaurs, and yet emerge without a single scratch! The film also portrays King Kong as both impressively strong and scary yet vulnerable and arousing pathos. It certainly isn't an advert for using wild animals as pets. nell

I liked it. First 45 minutes a bit slow but then all action for the rest. Bit scary. Linda

I'm sorry, Daisy, I won't be going to see it. I cried buckets when I saw the original on TV because I know what a terrible misrepresentation the film gives of one of the gentlest, most inoffensive creatures on Earth. I wonder how many more unfortunate primate babies will be captured after their mothers have been killed for the bushmeat trade, then ill-treated and sold for vast profits as pets as a result of people seeing this film? It is fantasy, but films hold huge sway over many people and often dictate fashions. '101 Dalmations' resulted in hundreds of unwanted, unmanageable, large dogs being destroyed after people bought cute little puppies (as seen in the film), and look at the kidnapped baby penguin - did someone want to give their child a 'Pingu' for Christmas? Having for some time supported the rehabilitation of primates who have suffered this awful fate to satisfy the whims of idiotic, greedy people, I think it's a travesty that the film 'King Kong' has been remade. I believe most copies of the original should have been left to rot on the shelves of the film archives, and it should only ever have been brought out to educate people about the misconceptions our 'civilisation' has about wild creatures - especially hugely endangered species such as gorillas and other primates. Promised my daughter we'd see this today and thought I'd be saved by the snow but no such luck. What have I let myself in for? Will I enjoy it? Daisy
