was upset by something their father was doing would you say something to the father? My son has received a card from his dad and is upset that it isn't a 'Happy Christmas Son' card just an ordinary one that is from his girlfriend and him with his girlfriend's name first. K is quite upset about this and doesn't know how to tell his dad that he is making him feel unimportant! What would you do? Julie xxx |

Personally I would let son tell his father. My step-d - (Pauls daughter) hasnt had a card from her mum - but saying that she never got a birthday card in March either. When she HAS had cards in the past she got a £10 B & Q voucher in it too - exactly what a young girl needs! |

i am 20 and i have had things like this cause me probs. I dont even know what advice to give you...cos i know if my mum spoke to my dad he would just ignore her. i think maybe its better if your son tells him. I kept it bottled up for years and one day exploded on him- it wasnt very nice but sorted an awful lot out xxxx |

Aw thanks Maz! I worry about him constantly cos he's so sensitive! It breaks my heart to hear him in such pain, as soon as he opened the card he rang me!!! That's how bad he felt! |

Steph, when it comes to my children I will not be quiet and timid like all other times and believe me if I speak his father listens!!!! K hasn't got the confidence to tell his dad how he feels and I don't think his dad is being malicious he just doesn't realise what he is doing! Julie xxx |

then thats completely fair for you to speak with him. My parents are not on speaking terns, havent been for about 10 years now- so if you can talk to him it will prob stop a whole lot of bother. best wishes to your son, i know its hard xxx |

Julie If he will listen to you then I think you should have a quiet word... Helping to boost his son's confidence has to be better for his confidence to .. if not his conscience! Maz x |

Bizarrely I went shopping for cards for my Bro and Sister yesterday for Daddy and last night I couldn't sleep cos kept thinking that neither of them would bother to get one for me from him..... Andy tried to sneak Daddy a text but he asked me what it said! :O) So I know I'm not gonna get one and I have to buy my own Xmas present from him too, which they won't have to do as I got theirs for him! No matter what age you are its important to think that people really care to buy the right card! Speak to your son's father and explain that it matters to your son and ask how he would feel if he got a boxed one that didn't say Dad on it!! Good luck xx |

do you think that the problem was caused because the girlfriend bought and sent the card? strange how it is the little things that can hurt. i always send all the grandchildren individual cards but we rarely get a card from them. When we do i am over the moon. Please send your chidrens' grandparents cards from the children. Ann Glos |

Is he upset that he has a card that doesnt say SON on it ~ cant he be glad he has a card at all? maybe you could point out that there are 100's of kids all over the country who will not even hear from their father! As for her name being first ~ I cant see the significance ~ probably scans better . If he is upset that she (not him) wrote it ~ Cant you turn that round to saying well at least she thinks enough of you to send one , (male organisation thing Etc etc) He has card that, okay, has dads girlfiends name first ~ even more upsetting that he didnt have a card at all ~ if he is upset that the girl friends name is on it at all its and issue about the girlfriend , not abouit the christmas card What ever YOU feel about it , do some Pollyanna on it , Jess |
