Jenny, Paul and I exchanged emails late last night. He was doing some work and expected to carry on till the early hours. Perhaps they slept in late. He and Sharon live in Milton Keynes, which is about 30 mile North-West of Hemel Hempstead, so don't worry, their home wouldn't have been affected, and the smoke from the explosions drifted eastwards over our way. It was very thick earlier on but has now cleared. We're almost 20 miles away and were woken by the explosion at 6 a m. The worst problem now is people panic-buying petrol in anticipation of a shortage. By doing that they'll create a shortage, as a spokesman for the petrol retailers has been on TV and said there are alternative means of supply from other depots.

I did indeed sleep in - was working late. DIdn't get up till nearly 11. Sharon was up but doesn't come on that often. Just watching the coverage of this on the TV - quite shocking. Paul (Thanks again for the concern. Easy way to differentiate between Milton Keynes and Hemel - we have lots of roundabouts, they have one big weird one ! lol)

Unknown Report 11 Dec 2005 12:51

Hi Karen, If it's the quiz Dee you mean, I think that she was born in Herts but now lives in Kent, so wouldn't have been affected by this morning's disaster. >*|*<

Paul Nothing wierd about their roundabout if you know what you are doing, is same as Wycombe one which hubby hates driving round but as I learnt to drive there seems normal to me. Can remember visisting rellies in Hemel area and love that roundabout wasn't the Kodak building by it?

Dawn ! It IS weird, you go round it the wrong way lol I don't know that area that well but yes, I believe the kodak building is next to it. Paul (for anyone who hasn't seen it, the Hemel Hempstead 'magic roundabout' is a HUGE central island with about 6-8 small roundabouts around it - very disconcerting when you first see it ! (and yes, Dee was born in Herts but lives in Kent)
