I,ve had it several times. Found the best thing to keep it a bay is to make sure legs & feet are well moisturised. Dont pick at hard skin ,have it removed by chiropodist. If you are prone to swelling legs or feet then make sure you keep legs raised as much as poss. & also if feet do start to swell then put ice pack on. I keep an ice pack in the freezer.Frozen pea packs will just as well in an emergency Then If you start to get that fluey feeling check for redness & if you see it get the antibiotics started asap. After about four episodes in one leg & two in the other ,I havent had any episodes (touch wood!!!) for about seven years. As you were hospitalised it sounds as if your body hasnt yet built up any immunity. Shirley

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but if you've spent 9 days in hospital wth this, should the hospital not give you any advise about preventing it ? That said.. if there any nurses on the site, I'd be interested to know that too... for non-medical purposes lol

Mine always started suddenly, would feel fluey & start to shiver violently. & feel very unwell. It makes you very ill. I would be in bed for at least five days unable to eat & hardly drinking. You know now what your onset symptems are,so you have to suspect the worse if you start those feelings & get the antibiotics asap. My doc is good .altho they dont do repeat prescriptions by phone my notes are marked up for antibiotics to be issued as soon as hubby rings in ,as they know how bad I,ve got in the past. Good Luck Shirley

If you 'google' cellulitis doing uk search there is a good site which tells you all about it. Several of the things on there I have indicated in my reply. Shirley
