At the local FHS last month we had a speaker - all about researching your ancestors in WW2 - army records etc The chap was lecturing on local people from here in Wakefield and mentioned a 19yr old who died in a plane crash into the side of a mountain in Scotland. He died in Stirling Infirmary and is buried in a graveyard near my home town. I knew exactly where the grave was so I contacted my sister (mwah thanks our Jan) to go and take some pics. All I could think about was the poor lad being there - and wondering if his family ever managed to visit the grave. Got really weepy about it. Last week - on 24th Nov - was the 65th anniversary of his death - so went and lit candles for him. Does anyone else get moved by things like this???? |

I don't think that'ssoppy at all. It just shows that you are a very compassionate person. I just like to think that someone in France does that for my husbands Grandfathers both gave their lives for others. |

Not soppy at all. What this world needs is more and more people who feel compassion for others and who make an effort to put things right. If things like this cannot touch us, what kind of person are we? There but for the grace of God........ |

I'm always moved to tears at the Remembrance service at our town war memorial. After all the official wreaths have been laid there is always a personal tribute from a local man in memory of his father, who died in 1917........ It brings it home to us that those who were bereaved suffered so long, - and still do. |

Hi Sheila, I was lucky enough to be on holiday in Tobago this spring and on a trip out visited a fort on a hillside where there was a solitary grave of an English officer in his late twenties. I spent a few quiet moments there while my famly and friends muttered 'You know what she's like when she sees a grave!!' I took a photo which didn't come out, sadly, but this soldier has a brilliant view! |

That was very thoughtful of you. I think when we become mums these things seem to hit home a lot harder than when we are younger, no you arent a soppy mare, you are compassionate. |
