Yes, John Rostill! I suddenly thought of his surname this morning after I'd come out of the shower. Erm, wondering why I thought of it so suddenly. Thanks anyway Pat and Brian. x

We have a few musicians on here - Rick Wakeman, Mark King and the bloke that sang either 'why must I be a teenager in love' or '7 little girls sitting on the back seat.' Can never remember which one.

One of the Shadows lives here on the Isle of Wight but I can't remember which one. Will have to ask hubby tomorrow.

CB I love that track 'DIamonds' I think Jet Harris had a group by that name later on didn't he? My parents liked the shadows so I grew up listening to stuff like Atlantis, Apache, Foot Tapper, Man Of Mystery (Edgar Wallace Theme wasn't it?) KonTiki, Wonderful Land and loads more. Brian I read the biography of the Shadows that was a good book, it was John Rostill in 1973 who was electrocuted in his own studio a terrible tragedy. We seem to be saying goodbye to many of our childhood heros. RIP Tony Meehan Pat x

Brian, wasn't that John ? (can't remember his surname, but remember he was gorgeous). Brian Bennett was drummer with the Shadows. Sad to hear about the original drummer. x

That's sad, I have a Shadows collection and play them regularly. Surprised to find Tony was only a couple of years older than me. One of the original guitarists also died accidentally (Brian Bennett? I should know, but can't be sure) by being electrocuted by a short curcuit in a guitar in his studio at home.

Oh, that is sad. I'm very sorry to hear that. The first album I ever bought (at the age of 11) was 'The Shadows'. They were an inspiration to thousands of teenage boys in the late 50s-early 60s, my brother and his group among them. I even learned to play by ear a few notes of their tunes on my brother's guitars when he was out - I'd have been shot if he'd seen me! I hope Tony's death leads to a re-release of the tracks he put down with Jet Harris. I was only thinking of 'Diamonds' the other day, when I picked up my rings to take them to the jeweller's to be enlarged. RIP Tony. >*|*<
