People still buy them? I remember playing on one in the waiting room of a speech therapist when I must have been about 4 or 5. (Couldn't say Lorry, kept saying lolly, remember that too) That was the only place I ever got to have a go on one and today, I don't think I've heard anyone talk about them. |

Can still get them and they are making a comeback. Our Co-Op has a good toy department and they are in their all different sizes. I would of loved one as a child. My sister bought tiddler a little one last christmas its called Barney. I can remember as a child (4) being in Stoke Mandeville hospital and they gave me my pre med in the play room while I was on the rocking horse. Don't think they expected the stuff to work so quickly or have the effect it did as it knocked me out straightawy and I fell off the rocking horse. |

Still available, Daniel, but a lot of them are hand-crafted and VERY expensive. Often bought now as an interior design artefact, rather than a plaything. Bet if you google rocking horse, you'll find several small businesses that make them to order. Jay |

We saw some of the old-fashioned wooden rocking horses, that were actually carved and hand-painted to look like real ones, in shop windows when we did Gaynor Bear's 'Sloane Ranger' walkabout in Chelsea. They now cost thousands of pounds, so it's not surprising there aren't many about. They are lovely though. I remember one of my cousins had one when I was a child. When he grew too old for it, my aunt offered it to me, but we lived in a very small flat and didn't have room for it. A great pity. >*|*< |

Just for the record I'm not trying to buy one, (although if they had one big enough...) Just wondering if they were still about. |

I bought a lovely wooden rocking horse for £5 at a fete. It is in lovely condition and my grandchildren love it. When I was a child we had a big wooden horse which would cost a fortune nowadays. I love wooden toys and notice they seem to be on the increase. Rather them than some of that plastic rubbish that is everywhere. |

I don't think you can beat wooden toys my boys had wooden trucks and the wooden train set made by Brio, they added loads onto it and it was terrific when we gave it away after years of a lot of playing it looked and worked like new. My daughter had a rocking horse it was lovely but small so she out grew it when she was about 6 years of age :-( There are loads of wooden toys available & just comparing the look of them let alone the quality to the plastic ones, no contest. We have one, it was bought earlier this year by Gaynor as a parting gift for our daughter and her other grand daughter. They love it. |

I bought an old dolls house with a lot of old furniture at a car boot sale for £20 with the intention of renovating it for my granddaughter. Just on a whim I asked my local antique dealer if it was worth anything and the reply was circa £400! She can have it when she is 21 or when I pop my clogs - not before! Just goes to show doesn't it. So, some of you out there with old rocking horses which have been handed down may find they have something valuable. Just a thought! Oh dear have I caused a stampede? |
