Ok I stopped smoking a week ago and am so pleased with myself.... but I cannot sleep at all! I am just going nuts at the moment, I lie there awake for hours, then when i fall asleep, i wake about once an hour til 5 am.... and that's it. Have tried herbal remedies, and the usual milky drink, but nothing. Any suggestions> Any other ex smoker have this problem? |

Hi Melanie...well done....If you are wearing the patches at night, they often keep you awake and give lots of dreams. If not, would suggest walking a lot and literally wearing yourself out! Good luck. BC |

HI Thanks for the support. I read How to stop smoking By Allen Carr, that's how i did it, and it wasn't too bad but this insomnia is awful. I'm not tempted to smoke, but am just so tired, its really starting to affect my concentration. |

Hi Melanie, waking up during the night is one of the most common side-affects during the first few weeks of giving up, all 'giving up smoking' books (the ones i've read anyway) mention this, apparently it is your brain reacting to not getting its usual dose of nicotine. I suffered from this for what seemed like weeks, but trust me it wont last for much longer. |

Yes Melanie The moon phases are the same. Difficult to explain .Have the same trouble everytime we go to W'gton.with the moon seeming to alter direction!! That turned out to be where w'gton is positioned on the Earth!! Try getting a good book on Meditation, you may not go to sleep but will be more rested.and stop your mind churning. Also try one of the Herbal Sleep remedies,, they relax your mind. Good Luck , You've got more will power than I have Jane |

Dunno if it will help but when you quit your body detox's and all sorts of things change!! Personally i was kept awake at nights cos my tongue dried out and cracked and it really hurt and swelled up!!, yes i slept with my mouth open?? another thing that I had never done!! I'm not plugging it but check out the 'little Karen' thread, we talk about withdrawal on there!! Wilf mentioned bleeding gums??? maybe you are having either of these symptoms and are waking to breathe???? If you work it out then please share it with us!! Karen |

Thanks guys, will keep you posted on the sleeping! Oh and I downloaded a quit meter which now runs at the bottom of my screen and it says One week, one day, 4 hours, 24 minutes and 51 seconds. 204 cigarettes not smoked, saving $92.06. Life saved: 17 hours, 0 minutes. YAY! |

No ciggies since Halloween! Try taking a Vitamin b tablet to help soreness of the tongue and mouth. 99p for a box at Morrison's! I am on the 24 hour patches and do not have a problem sleeping. I am sure that it is withdrawal related. |
