Used tyres keep appearing in the local woods, not just ones and twos, but dozens of them Suppose it costs money to dispose of them sensibly. Anyone else come across the problem? Dee x

Yep, the rag and bone men won't take wheels away anymore if they have Tyres on them, because there's a charge to dispose of them.. I'm sure there are better alternatives than fly tipping them though..i would have thought the local Council refuge Site would take them. Paul

The annoying thing is Paul is that there is a tip just down the road from us, it wouldn't be any further for them to go there Dee xx

The trouble is that the LA charges so much now for business's to dump stuff at the tips that those unscrupulous people who don't give a d***n about the environment just dump anywhere. We have a guy near us who collects rubbish as a business and then burns it in his farmyard! This is highly illegal not to mention the fact that he's letting off all sorts of toxins into the atmosphere! Fantastic on a summer's day! Getting our LA to sort it out has been a nightmare....:-( Cheers anyway Allie

I would have thought that in this day and age tyres could have been recycled, and that the Local Authorities should be encouraging that. Allie My son worked for a LA one summer when he was at Uni a few years ago, we were stunned when we found out how much it cost to get rid of things, suppose it's not surprising that people do dump stuff Must be pretty nasty having to live near the guy you mentioned Dee x

Yes it is awful - and what makes it worse is that everyone else near us doesn't bother to complain! Bunch of cowards - they are the ones who help these evil idiots get away with it! Allie

Allie, we have exactly the same thing going on over from us. An old bloke burns local commercial waste. I can't hang washing out when the suns comes out because he is burning. I can't have windows open during summer evenings because he is burning. The children often can't play out back in the summer because of the smoke and falling ash. The Environmental Health have cautioned him and are taking him to court now. However, my contact at the Environmal Health says the guy is more likely to die of old age (which could be imminent) than give up the bonfires. He just doesn't see that he is doing any wrong, burning stripped out caravan seats and tyres. Risking a £100 fine when he gets £40 for each of the trailer loads that build up the fire, I am not surprised he is not taking much notice.

It all takes so long, but there was a new EC directive out just recently, which (I think) will speed things up a bit! We also went to see our MP, although don't know if he was particularly interested! Cheers Allie x

Allie, I got several of the neighbours to phone up the Enviromental people all at once one day. That was when things started shifting a bit. It's a pain when some people winge to you, but won't join in to do anything about it, isn't it? I don't envy your situation. It's taken three years and an entirely new set of neighbours for me to get anywhere! Take photographs if you can, safely, and keep a diary of when the fires happen.

The local authority charges for disposal keep going up. The rules on what you can tip/burn/etc. get more stringent. So fly tipping and illegal burning increases. Simple, really. We've had lorry trailers stuffed with old tyres dumped in laybys. Some guy buys an old trailer, charges the tyre fitters to take their old tyres away. Then dumps the trailer for the local authority to get rid of.

It sems to be a countrywide problem, just wish there was something that could be done about it Dee x
