I do not believe in God, Christ or any of the others and I really do not mind not having a presee or celebration. I find the whole thing dreadfull. But i do not object to anyone else believing or having presee etc.

As Roxanne says it was originally a Pagan festival with mid winter celebrations....................so why not celebrate whatever your beliefs

How about having a small gift for new years, less christmasy. Yaletide and mid-winter were pre-christian festivals. They had yale logs, holy reaves and mistletoe. Christmas was in January before the chirches tried to make more people christian.

I celebrate christmas because of the Pagan festival, not the christian reason. Although I am not Pagan. Been around much longer than Christianity, and its the native religion to these islands. I think christmas is pushed upon a lot of people. A bit hard to escape from it! So just celebrate it as a Pagan festival instead, and it gives me a kind of sense of ignoring christmas! lol!

Yes it was a festival of the old religion, a celebration of the Winter Solstice, then the Romans came and ran the Christial religion alongside the Pagan and it has now become one - Christmas - but the holly and ivy and wassailing still survive and kissing under the mistletoe - all Pagan symbols...We also have Diwali (sorry if I spelt it wrongly) and the Scandinavians have festivals of light at this time of year - I love it all...

I'm a hypocrite. :) While I do not celebrate the birth of Christ, I do recognise the birth of any child being a reason for celebration. I feel a reflection of my joy in my children everytime I see a Christmas Crib or Nativity Play. At Christmas I celebrate the gathering of all the generations of my family. Presents, rightly or wrongly, are a token of love. RW
