Woman trapped in room for a week Police in Lancashire have rescued a 79-year-old woman who fell over and remained trapped between a bed and a cupboard for a week. Neighbours at St David's Avenue in Cleveleys raised the alarm, because they had not seen her for some time. An officer broke into the house and found the woman in her bedroom, wedged between the furniture. A Lancashire Police spokeswoman said an ambulance was called and the woman was now in Blackpool Victoria Hospital. She suffered dehydration and hypothermia and was being treated on an observation ward. Neighbours called police because they had not seen the woman and noticed the post building up. A police spokeswoman added: 'The officer involved did a very good job.'

Poor old soul. She could just as well have been found dead. My next door neighbour well over eighty, fell the other day. She was trapped behind the garden gate. It had been drizzling with a howling wind for hours, it was dark, very cold, and she could not get up. Had I not been having a parcel delivered, goodness knows what would have happened to her. she certainly would not have lasted the night. The delivery woman saw her and came back for my husband. She had been out at the shed for a bucket and mop!!! We called a warden, just to be safe. I just am so lucky to be living here. I hope nothing ever happens to change my circumstances. Deanna X

Thank goodness she was found. What she must have suffered before being missed. My Aunt had a massive stroke 2 weeks ago. The neighbours noticed that her milk hadn't been taken in, called the police and they found her on the floor. She is still clinging on, bless her. It would be nice to think that we would all watch out for elderly people living on their own. Jean x.

When I lived in a terrace of houses, one of my immediate nextdoor neighbours fell and broke her hip. We discovered her the next evening, having been out all day, as she hadn't taken in her milk. She was in a state of complete shock and was quite stroppy when I suggested contacting her sister! nell

Poor woman,She must be quite tough to hang in there though. There was a 3 year old found in a flat in Edinburgh about 2-3 weeks ago. His mother had died, they think about a month before ;(( The wee lad was very thin and weak and had lived on crisps juice etc. As far as I know two health/social worker's were suspended. That poor wee soul :(( Marion

This Is so sad, the fact that nobody missed her I find so very disturbing, unfortunatly most people are wrapped up in their own 'little' lives, its very upsetting.

All sense of community has gone. The majority of people don't even know their neighbour's names. We tend to be cocooned in our own little world at home and travel around in our little tin box. It has been observed that people walking down a street treat other pedestrians as if they were trees, just navigating around them. People who commute on trains at a regular time sometimes get to pass the time of day: but only after about 5 years. SAD!
