Hubby had a phone call yesterday, purporting to come from BT. The man said 'we can halve your quarterly bill' and went on to ask for his bank details!! Hubby refused of course but told him to write with the details. I am concerned now as the man has our address. Still, I suppose he could have got that from the directory anyway. Chrissie

Ooh that is scary good job your hubby had his wits about him. Mind you names and address' are so easy to get these days. Germaine x

It won't have been a BT call, but probably a company which sells on BT services. I would never sign up to that type of thing over the phone and certainly not supply bank details. We had one on at work a couple of weeks back (Onetel) from a foreign call centre that was very persistent. I eventually put the phone down on her. And then she rang back!

Thanks Germaine and Brian. It will be interesting to see whether he receives a letter or not. Chrissie

I put on my ''No good asking me ,i'm the housekeeper'' act when they ring. 'Ello, dunno, I'm v' 'ousekeeper (sniff)'' they soon give up and go away. Alan pretends to be the man from environmental heath, ''........I'm only here sorting out the infestation problem''....

Hi Jess That's a brilliant idea. I will try that next time. I usually just say 'you shouldn't be ringing here, I'm registered with the preference service'. That usually sees them off pretty quick but I'm the 'ousekeeper sounds more fun:)) Chrissie x p.s. Any news on the house front yet?

Chrissie My mother had what sounds like a very similar call. Said they were from BT. Asked for Christian name. DOB. Name of Bank. I was horrified that she provided that much info. They then asked for bank account number and got agressive when she refused. I assume that it is a way of getting you to change providers, rather than actual fraud, but the method is underhand and dishonest.

Oh how awful. I must check whether they asked for the name of his bank or not. I'm sure he wouldn't have given it though - I HOPE!! Chrissie

I had an email a couple of weeks ago from someone in Nigeria who had 'fled from Zimbabwe' and her husband had 6 million dollars which they had to transfer to an account in Britain, and my husband had been chosen and for his assistance he would get 20%. Just email our bank details etc. and the money would be put in - yeh. I wonder how many people would fall for that one. Sent back an email saying that I couldn't find my frontal lobotomy scars, and suggested where they could put their 'money. x Sally

Yes, emails give you time to think, but when there's someone on the phone or on your doorstep its different.

House front? - front's okay, back not bad.... seriously, sorry, feeling upbeat about it at the moment -have changed selling agents and have another veiwing at 3pm - so probably suicidal by teatime! From our perspective the one we want now has lost their purchase so pressure off a bit, as they have to find another one to buy - hey ho! Jess x
