Have been having problems with laptop all day. Kept on crashing. Have tried resarting in Safe mode, Last good configuration etc. Windows just will not boot up. Have tried using Operating System CD to repair, and it is telling me my 'C' drive is corrupt and cannot be repaired. I am now presuming I have lost all my files, Gaynor Bear photo's etc. etc. I do know if I reinstall Windows from the OS cd I will definatley loose everything. If the 'C' drive is corrupt does this mean it will still be so if I reinstall. Any advice greatly appreciated. Jenny very near to tears. |

Have you got a start up disc? (ebd) You need one on a cd rom if you have not got a floppy drive - perhaps a friend could make one for you? Start the computer with the ebd in the drive and you should get a command prompt. Type in sys c: and then hit return. Might work. Also look at the help files. The registry could be corrupt and this can be fixed (apparently) (info by my hubby!) |

Jenny I think you may need to get everything copied to cd asap. Once all the photos, my documents etc are saved (even email addresses can be) then the machine will need to be totally wiped clean & you can reload. Best put up a thread for Judy in the States to be certain though. Hope you can sort it. Joan |

Hi Jenny Is this the same laptop you were talking about the screen the other day. I remember you said it wasn't very old, if it's still under guarantee can you phone up and get advice. Diane |

Dianne, yes it is. It is just 11 months old. We also paid extra for accidental damage and extended warranty. Jenny. |

Definately call up. Mine is three years old next month and we paid for the extra warrenty. Last month it kept turning itself off. After calling them up an engineer came round and had to replace the motherboard, parts of it had burnt out. It's worth calling them for advice before you lose all your work. Diane |

I personally would take it in but when you do explain to them about the files you have on the hard drive you need all files are recoverable they should be able to do this for you before they reboot your system if the damage isnt too bad Paul |

Dianne, this is roughly what was hapening to mine. I did think the power supply connector was faulty. Very often it would just run onto battery on its own. Will phone PC World now. Thanks for the advise. Jenny x |
