Hi, I'm a feminist - you don't have to have wear dungarees have hairy legs and no make up to be a feminist, honestly. Feminism is about equality of opportunity and equal pay for equal work. Radical feminism is a whole different thing! lol Gwynne |

I am a feminist. I have no particular desire to work down a coalmine, it is true; but, then again nor do my brothers. Actually, do we still have any coalmines left in Britain |

Wouldnt say I was an ardent feminist but do agree generally with the sentiments - unfortunately I also recognise that I am not as strong as a man, therefore cannot undertake some forms of employment and have to bow to their superior physical strength (and that's as far as it goes really - lol) Jacqui |

Hi Joy, My gt grandparents worked very hard to make sure none of their children went down the mines in the valleys of Wales like they had to. They paid for apprenticeships for their sons and daughters in trades that did not involve working underground My grandparents made sure that all their children, boys and girls had a good education and some of them went on to university. I do the same job as some of my cousins and I expect to get the same money for it. None of us would want to work down the mines, male or female, even if there were pits left to work in. There are jobs that I physically can't do because of my height, strength and minor physical problems. There are many men who can't do such jobs either. Feminism was never about women working down pits it was about women who do the same jobs as men getting the same pay. All bus drivers, teachers, shop workers etc should be paid the same rate for the same work - seems only fair to me. Gwynne |
