Anyone looking for him???? I was just browsing through the CityArk Medway ancestors site and found him, baptised June 1825, son of.....Noah's Ark Mitchell! Depressingly there were also several notes in the margins made by the Curate saying certain names were wrong.....but Noah's Ark isn't one of them!!!

Sorry, Noah's not one of mine, but I did come across Michael Angelo living in Oldham on the 1851 census !! Dianne xx

Hi, I'm a bit behind the times, but only just found this post.

I'm interested!! I'm a descendant, and would love any info you've got on either Noah's ark senior (b 1798) or Noah's Ark jnr (b1825 - b1885).

I've only found one child for Noah's Ark jnr (Frank Mitchell 1869 to 1918), and would love to know if there were any more siblings. Otherwise if you're interested in what happened to Frank's branch, send me a message.

I have no idea why father and son had that particular name, but they were both involved with the sea. On Noah jnr's marriage certificate (which has his name written out beautifully) he's listed as a "Mariner" and father (Noah's Ark Mitchell written out as well) is listed as a "Sailmaker".

Noah's Ark Mitchell (jnr) is also listed as a "ships boy 2nd class" in the UKNavalMedalsAwards roll for serving on the "Benbow" in Syria and China between 1840 and 1842, but I haven't found any records of royal naval service (or merchant service) for Noah's Ark snr.

I found a sibling of Noah's Ark jnr's (Lousia) - although she was christened in Gillingham, on some immigration paperwork (under her married name Skinner) her native place is listed as "Nor at Sea - off the coast of Kent".

It seems they were a pretty nautical bunch, but it didn't continue down my branch.

Anyway, if you're looking for an excuse to research the Noahs and their descendants, I'd love to know what you find! Particularly the older one - I found a burial reference for another Noah's Ark Mitchell who died JUST before the elder of these two were born.... Three generations in a row perhaps? But I couldn't find any more detail.

Hope to hear from you!

Cas.

Hello Cas and welcome to the boards.

Helen in Kent was just making an observation; she wasn't really researching the Kent Mitchell family. You could send her a private message by clicking on her name, and remind her of this thread.

She found the image on the Medway City Ark site, which you probably already know about
http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/

As an ongoing project, the records are being transcribed on http://www.freereg.org.uk/ which can be used as a finding aid when hunting for the originals.

Have fun!

Hi DetEcTive,

Thanks for that, I was just about to send a message. Thanks for the tip on the medway site, I don't think I've been there yet, most of what I've found has been through ancestry.
Just thought anyone watching might like to know that the Noah's Ark(s) weren't a dead end. ( I never thought I'd have to contemplate what the plural of "Noah's Ark" would be. :-S )

Off I go....

Cas.
