Saw on the news, bird cull in Romania. They were putting live chickens, ducks and geese into wheelie bins. ITV showed it but BBC ended their report as they got to the bins. David |

Yes Dave, I saw it too; I also noticed that they momentarily let us see them doing that, then shboom! Gone. It was almost as if they were blaming the birds for it. x |

it's not nice, but if the poultry become infected, they will suffer a slow painful death, and we don't want that. no one is sure at the moment, how soon,if at all this will transmit to humans, but if it did, many people could die,so precautions, such as localised culling is necessary. bryan. |

Sorry. My point was that they could have wrung their necks before they binned them. David |

hi dave, i think it's because the farmers are afraid of being infected,so rather than kill individually,as we all would believe to be kinder, they have decided to do it on-mass. whatever we say,we may upset someone, but bird flu needs to be taken seriously,as at it's worse it may be capable of the deaths of thousands of humans, accross europe. bryan. |

Dave & Bryan This what it says on the BBC website 'Those who have been in the presence of dead or dying birds are most likely to become infected, and the chances of human-to-human transmission are still seen as very slim.' |

We have a lady living in the countryside near us, who rescues and rehomes ex-battery hens. She has worked so hard to give these birds a better life; she'll be devastated if the Bird Flu comes to Britain and all these hens have to be culled. Yes Bryan, I can see your point re culling. As Dave says, it's the way it was done that was awful. But reading your reply to that, it seems there wasn't much choice given the circumstances. |

I suppose they didn't treat the orphans much better in Romania. We also kept ducks and became quite fond of them, until a fox got them. David |
