sad isn't it. My Dad reckons he's smoked since he was 9 or 10. He's 79 now, no wonder he's found it nigh on impossble to stop (he's tried to kid us that he'd stopped about a year ago, but in reality he still smokes, he just doesn't do it so blatantly (and probably much less than he used to). I've given up nagging him now. |

I am shocked Louise and saddened. I have a son aged 10yrs, a non-smoker :) if we found he was, well I don't know what I would do. Glad that the Mum of this little boy gave up smoking to help her son, but I think he will need a lot of help to get him to stop, he doesn't come across as a 'bad' lad does he, me thinks a lot of it is do with peer pressure. Where does he get them from please? even if his parents smoke it is very irresponsible to leave them within his reach (along with the means to light it) so they must be knowingly giving them to him seeing as he can't go to the shops himself. Claire xx |

Claire, he said he could buy them cheaply from people where he lives. |

And I suppose he is just trotting off to the street corner by himself at the age of 6 to buy them. What is his mother doing while he is purchasing and smoking his fags? Some times I dispair! Claire xx |

Its more common than people think. I have had many dealings with children who smoke and also smoke the wacky stuff and cider, most of them are 9, 10 and 11. Most of them get them from people in the street or nasty as it sounds pinch butt ends out of the ashtrays or off streets, some nick them from their parents and some actually shop life. Its awful but its so common, there is now a smoke busters scheme for children now. The problem is most people don't realise whats what until its to late. With all these schemes running you would think it will stop most of them, but more and more children seem to be doing it, we really need to find out why they feel the need to do these things first, instead of act later :-) |

Well Nichola, I must be very naive. That is a very sad state of affairs. I just hope that my children don't fall into the trap of peer pressure, and that I have my eyes open enough to be able to spot any potential problems then....just another worry to add to parenting! Claire xx |

I saw a news header regarding that, they said he was smoking at 4 on that bulletin. A child that age can't do just as he likes. I blame the parents I'm afraid. What on earth is this world coming too. |
