It's OK, Maz. As Heather posted above, that street was renamed Henriques Street, and it's still there as that name. It's in Whitechapel, off Commercial Road. Thanks for offering though. CB >|< X

CB, just found this which should help!! Basil Henriqes Unfortunate customers passing through Thames Magistrates’ Court in Bow Road probably have too much on their mind to spend time looking at the paintings on the walls. But if they took a few seconds out they would see a portrait of an extraordinary man with an extraordinary name, who dedicated his life to making sure the young people of the East End saw as little of courtrooms as possible. Basil Lucas Quixano Henriques returned from the First World War a young officer of 28. He was from a good family and had been educated at Harrow School and Oxford University. But like many of his generation who had seen the horrors of the Great War, he came back determined not to settle into the old ways of Edwardian England – he decided to change things for the better. Before going to fight, Henriques had started his first boys’ club, south of the river in Bermondsey – at the time a strongly Jewish area. But returning to London, he decided to cross the river. The East End was coping with its own huge inpouring of Jewish settlers, displaced from eastern Europe by pogroms and persecution and by the chaos of war. Basil set up his first “settlement” in Berners Street, off Commercial Road – but don’t look for it on the map, it’s now renamed Henriques Street in his honour.

Annie, It's from the 1851 Census, and I've got the latest London A-Z. The street doesn't appear, but thanks for the tip. I'll try it. Heather, I've PM'd you. CB >|< :>)

Thanks, Anna. I haven't yet looked at the Old Maps site, as East London has always been a maze of small streets, and I wanted to try and pinpoint the right area first. It's always possible that the street I'm looking for disappeared in the London Blitz during WWII. So much of East London was wiped out then, and lots more of the old housing has been demolished to make way for modern houses and blocks of flats. CB >|< :>)

My lot who were baptised there came from Stepney and Ratcliff

Please could someone tell me which area of Tower Hamlets is covered by the parish of 'St George in the East'? I've found some people on a Census, and I'm not sure exactly where they lived, as the named street doesn't appear in the current London A-Z. CB >|<
