am looking through the 1851 census and I have found someone that has put a lot of my research in doubt... My gt gt gt grandfather was Thomas Smith, born Cardington. His ages were all over the place in later censuses, but going though the PR's I found a Thomas born in 1771. and no others around that time. I've just done a search on Smith/Cardington on the 1851 and found another Thomas, born 1771, and living in Beds ! oh hell !!!

back to the PRs then I think on the plus side, I'd got back two more generations past Thomas, then ground to a halt. Maybe if I have a different Thomas, I might get further. Anyone want to have a stab at is age ? In 1841 he was 55, therefore born around 1786 In 1851 he was 70, therefore born around 1781 In 1855 he died, aged 79, therefore born around 1776 ?

Keith, the problem is, I may have the wrong Thomas, and therefore the next two generations of my tree may be wrong.

But Cardington is in Beds so are you not talking about the same person??

both Thomas's born Cardington. 'my' one was later found living in Buckinghamshire. The other Thomas was in Beds still.

Oh no not the fiche....... I sat almost the whole of yesterday at The Heritage Centre in Woolwich. Nearly went boss-eyed with those fiche readers. On the upside though, I did find a few of mine, so worth it in the end. Keep digging lol Jan xx
