If so, please feel free to add to this thread and send positive vibes this way! lol. I have given up smoking and it's bloody hard, and everyone seems to be being so negative about it. I told my Mum last night and she said 'ah yes but you haven't managed it yet have you?'. Well I haven't had one for 5 days so far! Was talking about it to the woman on the checkout in Asda this morning and she's like 'I gave up and I've never been so miserable in my life'. What is wrong with people? Jeanette x |

apparently all habits are formed and broken in 30 days. So if you can go without for 30 days, the habit is broken. Good luck !! |

Hi Jeanette, Good luck and stick with it! My only thoughts are that I think some people just like to be able to turn round at a later date and say 'ah-ha, I told you so', if you fail. Andy |

Hi Jeanette, Everyday is the first day, try not to think five days, but one day. If you think one day at a time, the days go faster and you feel better quicker. Micheal. |

Thanks Paul, Andy and Dawn. The only person who has said anything good to me so far (besides yourselves) is my sister who is a reformed smoker herself. And, although she has been running for a while now, she's just started training for next years Great North Run. |

Dawn I'm using the patches. I've tried cold turkey a few times and failed miserably! lol. The patches do seem to take away most of the cravings. I also tried the nicotine gum but it was bloody awful, so I'm just chewing normal chewy if I get the urge to have a fag. |

Hi Jeanette am glad to see you are using NRT don't worry it is non-addictive. Were they prescribed or did you buy them over the counter, you do know your doctor can prescribe them don't you? Use the patches for a minimum of 3 months. It may also be an idea to have a back up product too like the nasal spray. Good luck Ken xx |

Jeanette, well done flower, I envy you. Keep going and take one day at a time. As you know I am a smoker, desparatley trying to give up. But the right day to start just never seems to arrive..I know I will do it one day though. I did pack up for 8 months three years ago. I used patches from the Dr. But what really helped me was Nicorette microtab. I managed to do without the patches after a few weeks but still had those odd nasty cravings. The microtab really did take the craving away. They were brilliant. Ok so I failed in the end. But one day soon I shall be back there with you, a non smoker. Let me have your address again. I have some left. Will send you some in the post for you to try before you go out and buy any. I really do think they may help you. Jennyxx |

Jeanette, I send you all the positive thoughts in the world and close your ears to the begrudgers! I watched everyone at the York Meet, puffing away and having to go outside for a drag, and I was really glad that I am not hooked any more. I respect anyone's right to do what they wish, I hasten to add! But once you have decided, you should get all the encouragement in the world. Well done, Jeanette! XX BC |

Hi Jeanette. I'm well impressed! Way to go, girl. You can do it. Oh no - I've just had visions of you 'starring' in the tv ad where the girl beats up enormous fags, pmsl Beth :) |

Thanks everyone. What a lovely lot you are! Ken - I bought my first packet of patches over the counter but didn't get strong enough ones. So I went to my Dr and got the full strength. Beth - Beat up a fag? I'll beat up anyone that comes near me! lolol |
