i have Norwich Union breakdown ( not insured with them !), and they actuallty send out RAC vans, but can you believe they were nearly £50 a year cheaper than RAC, but i still get the same mechanics !!!!! ( think i pay £70) did have to call them out 3 times in a space of 4months, and never waited more than 30 mins and was towed home each time ( neighbours loved that !!!), distance no problem, most of them will only tow you a few miles then start charging you again !!! good luck Jane |

I have Direct Line Insurance and have breakdown cover through them. I have had to call them out twice and a local garage comes they were excellent they arrived after 20 minutes. The second time they had to take my car to the garage then they took me home, I really can't fault it. After you have reported a breakdown Direct Line texts you back within 5 mins to tell you how long you have to wait I pay £108 per year, with 10% discount if you don't call them out for a year. I also got 10% discount when I joined. You don't have to have insurance with Direct Line to have breakdown cover. I was driving for 24 years without cover but never had a breakdown. I bought a 2 year old car and changed the insurance and decided to buy cover because it was snowing and I thought you never know, good job I did because I needed it. Sue |

I've used both AA and RAC over the years. Can't say one better than the other except on the few occasions I've had to call someone over many many years the RAC have got there quicker. Just finished 3 years with the RAC but this time I'm going to try Britannia Rescue - unless of course someone knows something I don't LOL Jan |

We have an arrangement through our bank and I think they call Green Flag usually.I have only ever used them twice in 20 years. The first time was for a kerb side call out to start the car. I didn't know then that if you move an automatic only a short distance, then leave it over night it won't start again in the morning. That time RAC turned up. Then two years ago I had a puncture at Wool in Dorset and I was found by GPS and a local man came out with his truck and was excellent. It costs approx £120 per annum. Worth it for the security it gives me driving alone. Rose |

Haven't decided who to change to yet as all sorts of tips coming from this thread. However rang AA to tell them I would not be renewing at end of Oct. Told them it was cost factor - after humming and hawing - the informed me that the only organisation they recognised was RAC and that they would match their price!!!!!!! So that is a £30 saving already. Have plenty of time to check others. Ann |

Was AA now with Rhubarb And Custard - as my partner will insist on calling them. We have only ever needed them once in a major way - after a crash and was relayed home by the AA - never again. The RAC put you on a truck and bring you back - the car went on and off 4 trucks to journey home with the AA relay system - nightmare! Jessx |

Used to be with AA but now link to insurance. Haven't had to call them out often but Saga Services get a thumbs up from me. Vivienne |

We have been with the AA.for years and years, even when we lived abroad. They recently sent us a renewal for over £200.00.( thats for the top range they have) so I checked with my Insurance Co. and get exactly the same cover for £60.00.less.( This Insurance Co.own the RAC.now,so I intend to stay with them)The AA.Have gone so much down market now with their service,I doubt if they will exist for much longer. Got our dual renewal this morning for AA - £125.00. RAC just quoted me £96 for similar + 10% for each year we do not call them out - must be 20 years since called AA. Who do you use? Ann |
