My boyfriend just phoned me, he has managed to finish work early and was on the train (he works in Moorgate) on his way to the station he rides a push bike, he got pulled over by the police. They were trying to arrest him for theft! They asked him where he got the ike from and when he said hi uncle they didnt believe him! he showed them the serial number and said that it would be linked to so and so address, they did a search, it came up with his uncles address and they still didnt believe him, in the end he had to phone his uncle, (the poilice phoned him, quizzed him) and when they realised they couldnt nick him for theft they have given him a £60 fine for riding on the pavement...This can be a £30 fine if he attends a semonar next week at 2.00 but thats impossible cos he cant get the time off for that!!! I have nothing against the police, my big bro is a copper, but this is ridiculous! |

thats the thing, he does wear trakkys and caps (lives and dies in them) so he could look kinda suspicious but im sure that all those who have met him will agree that hes lovely and a nice bloke, just judged by image! we cant afford £60 just to give away!! |

Sweetie Pie, You know I love you and Aaron dearly but he should not be riding his bicycle on a pavement. They are for pedestrians. Jean x. |

Hi Steedie, I saw a piece on the news over the weekend that the police are doing a big 'bust' on push bikes at the moment. Apparently they cause lots of accidents by thinking that the red lights are not for them and also riding on the pavements. Seems your poor boyfried got caught by an over zealous cop. Perhaps he hadn't caught his quota for the day!!. Linda. (I know they've got their job to do, my son's one of them, but really!!!!) |

i know really i do, i tell him all the time, hes only been riding it since hes been back (2 weeks now) but he does it cause most the time he misses rush hour, hes there so early in the morning so know one is around and early leaving or really late leaving. Ive told him loads he has to ride in the roads but i think hes scared too, which should mean dont ride it at all, but theres no telling him....maybe this will change his mind so you are definalty right, but he reckons he was just cutting a corner which he couldnt really help but have to ride on the pavement.....so in a way he has no excuse hes been caught red handed, but really if they saw him cutting the corner with no other choice it sounds like they were out to get him. I shouldnt be saying this, but i know for a fact that when people first start working in the force, they are told to go out and search, arrest, pull over a certain amount of peoople per day for practice!!! |

Whilst I do sympathise (I put up my own thread recently about stupid fines), I do have to agree about riding on pavements. One of the kids on our estate got knocked over recently by some idiot on a bike. There's even less excuse in MK because there are redways (cyclepaths) everywhere ! |

Steedie, He'd be fine if he was riding a bike on the pavement here. An elderly lady I know was almost mown down by a young man riding very fast along a pavement. When she informed the Police and complained that he should have been riding on the road, the Policeman asked her if she expected him to ride on the road and risk being killed, in preference to riding on the pavement! They didn't seem bothered that a small, frail elderly lady could have been killed! It's ridiculous - if there's a law stating NO BIKES ON PAVEMENTS, it should be enforced everywhere, not just in a few places at random. People get confused when that happens and think it's OK. I don't blame Aaron. He's a good lad, but I've seen nothing warning about a campaign against bikes on pavements. People should be warned and reminded. CB >|< |
