Put a cheque in for £500 on Friday, still not gone through. Any bankers here know if it will be ready to withdraw soon?

Depends who you bank with, some have their own time frame. If you put a chq in on a friday you discount the weekend, then should be 4 working days (thursday)

I put a cheque in last Tuesday week and it cleared yesterday. Where do they go!

I think it's five full working days. So if it was put in last Friday won't be ready till Monday. Linda

Abbey is 3 working days excluding the day you paid it in.

because halifax is a part building soc, it takes 7 working days to clear rather than 5 with a bank. should be cleared by mon 6pm when systems update.

Halifax will be able to tell you, it's mostly the building societies that take longer. The theory behind cheque clearance is that you pay your cheque in one day, it goes that night to clearing department to be sorted on the next day, from there it goes overnight to the bank of the person who wrote the chq. That bank has until the next day to decide if it will honour the chq, and if not it is returned by 1st class post to the payees bank. Maybe they allow a bit longer as post not reliable now!! I have been retired from banking for 5 years!!

Solicitor's fees actually. Child defence doesn't come cheap.
