hiya my hubby has had nose bleeds on and off for about 5 yrs,(he is 59)he is on bp tablets and asprin. had tests nothing showed up, doc told him to knock asprin off. but he still has them. i would say he has about 3 a week, most happen after he has been haveing a nap in the afternoon. or just resting. today as we were talking i said your nose is bleeding( he was sat down) as he jumped up it went worse, i think he should get to the bottom of it, but you can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink x

Hello all Thanks for all your replies. Alex just sees it as a pain in the ass, and able to cope as he has had so many. The Doc told us it was a normal part of growing up (hes 12), so if it carries on i will take him to the A&E department as it takes 2 weeks to ge an appointment with our Doc Thanks again Suzy :o) x

My wife suffered very bad nose bleeds for almost two years with large clots issuing from her nose. Nose bleeds are usually associated with blood pressure and are a safety valve against strokes in elderly people. Our doctor prescibed ramipril capsules (presciption only ) and these helped. Just before the end of 2004 a vein in her nose was cauterised and until today had no further trouble. Today saw the return of a nose bleed almost as bad as those she originally suffered although she is still taking the tablets prescribed. Any nose bleed can be frightening particularly at nightime and with children. if such events are frequent and heavy in their content I would recommend taking the patient to the doctor or in very extreme cases call for medical aid. Suzy My son is 9 and has nosebleeds for no apparant reason.......... the ones in the middle of the night are a worry , they just start up. This has been going on now for about 3 years. There was only the once I can recall that hubby ( a first aider ) & I worried. we were in Wales in a caravan and it was blinking HOT! It poured for 35 mins we were about to call an ambulance when it stopped almost instantly when we took him out of the caravan. Since then we have found it seems to be due to being overheated..... keeping him cool at night has been the answer so it seems. We have taken him to the doctor and had his blood pressure checked (as this could trigger them too ) and everything is ok......... the doctor has reffered us though to the hospital of which there is a 28 to 30 week waiting list!! I do hope Alex isn't too afraid of the nose bleeds. I think my son is so used to them now that it's a matter of fact attitude he has to them . Much happiness Debi

My son has had bad nose bleeds on and off since he was about 5. A few years could go by without any bleeds then they would start again. About a month ago sure enough they started and at long last he has had he nose cauterised sp. Hopefully thats the end of it. Sue p.s. He is 16 now.

Alex has had 2 very serious ones today, the last one in the middle of Tesco, and of course silly me didnt have any tissue, but a kind old lady came to the rescue, bless her. I thought he had grown out of them as he hasn't had them for a couple of years now. Do you think it may be a one off, or should i take him back to the doctors ? Suzy :o)
