In the Middle Ages there were the Knights, In Elizabethan Times there were the great Sea Captains like Drake and Raleigh, In more recent times we had the great explorers Livingstone, Stanley, Archaeologists, Scientists etc. Who tops my list of today's Heroes?

The guy in the open topped Smart Car chasing me round the fast lane of the M25. I would be scared to do 50 in one of them, let alone what he was doing.

Personally I think the real hero's are the ordinary people who help others ie lifeboatmen.

I like to think of the down to earth people too - like Neil Armstrong, surely he equates with Livingstone etc., ? apart from those space guys - cant thing of others who would be in the Hero category.

In my book a hero or heroine is someone who puts their own life at risk to save the life of someone else - a passer by who jumps into the canal to pull someone out or enters a burning building to rescue someone trapped. Although many people deserve our admiration for coping with illness or undertaking a great achievement, they are not what I'd define as true heroes.

I think the people who go up in space must be high on the list, so must submariners - especially those who rescued the Russian ones recently. Personally, if asked to name an individual, I'd say Simon Weston. I've always admired his courage and the way he's overcome his injuries. CB >|<

thank you joy,but it's just a job, that we're trained to do. CB,now simon weston,is a true hero, not only coming through dozens of operations, but turning his life around to help others. i think,we all have a hero inside ourselves, waiting for the moment,i've seen so many people, come through adversity. bryan.
