Just got home from a smashing long weekend in Scotland. Went there for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.....it was fantastic. Stayed at a log-cabin type hotel near Braemar; the hospitality was excellent. Scenery was breathtaking for a townie like me! Anyone else ever been to the Tattoo? Brian

Never seen it myself but have lost count of the amount of times my mum's seen it. In fact she and my stepfather are off to see it again on Friday.

We went several years ago and had a fantastic time. I grew up with the pipes as my Dad has played them since he was 12ish. He is 68 now. My Dad is over there right now with his pipes in tow! A couple of years ago he was a part of the '10,000 Pipers' in Edinburgh, an event to raise money for cancer research. Deb

Would love to go to the Tattoo - I have visited Edinburgh twice in recent years (and once overnight in the 70's but that's another story lol). I think it is an amazing city, I just love the wide Princes street and the castle and just everything about it. Would love to spend a few weeks in the area and see more of Scotland too. Did visit Glasgow too, that was interesting. Have recently found relatives in Inverness so maybe I'll get to head north again sometime.

Carol, We went with a tour operator, and the hotel we were booked into was in a village called Spittal of Glenshee. Great little hotel, nothing else around except sheep and mountains! The driver took us to Braemar for a morning, then in the afternoon to Edinburgh to shop and do the Tattoo. Then to three more places next day - Pitlochry, Dunkeld and Perth, so we've had just a snifter of the Scottish countryside. Can't get over the number of rivers there are! It's a long way for us in the South and Midlands though, as you'll appreciate. We picked up 5 people at the Milton Keynes Coachway. From Luton to the hotel took over 11 hours inluding 3 or 4 short stops at Service Stations. Brian, ;~D

Christine, Lucky you with those complimentary tickets! No, fortunately it didn't rain. One thing I didn't like was the terms and conditions, which state that in the event of a cancellation by the promoters, tickets could not be used at another performance (fair enough) nor would money be refunded. I think that's a bit off. Obviously, they can't control the weather any more than the ticket holder can, but a refund would have softened the blow and the disappointment of many thousands of those present who had travelled from all over the country, and the world. We weren't the only foreigners present! Brian, ;~O

Been once in the eighties - thoroughly enjoyed it - had very good seats. A lot of germans were sitting behind us - not a problem until the sing-a-long - I think it was Colonel Bogey or something similar - until it dawned on me that my husband was singing very loudly and it was the WW2 version to do with Hitler and Goerbals!! When I told him off - he grinned and said 'they are the only words I know'. Ann
