The times that I come up to a pelican crossing and there are people awaiting to cross the road, but no one has pressed the button. Use finger and press then the green man will appear is that to difficult for some people.

it's true eddie, we approach the pelican, but stand like numpties until someone else has the gall to press the button, perhaps it's due to the fact that the light on the button hardly works, no-one knows if it's been pressed. lynnxx

But then when they do press the button - they dash across in a lull in the traffic and leave us motorists sitting there like numpties at a red light with nobody waiting to cross LOL

Now I am completely the opposite, even if there are crowds waiting, I will still press the button - several times in fact. Get so impatient waiting at crossings but try to stick to the green man thingy so as not to wrongly inflence little ones.

right eddie- i will , in future, press every man , green or otherwise, i pass . even if i do not want to cross, lol. sue.

There's a pelican crossing near where I live with cameras attached to the top of the lights. Unless you stand directly under the camera the green man will not work no matter how many times you press the button.
