They spent all that money, and it is still not as impressive as the Chimney at Fawley. |

The biggest waste of money ever - just think of all that NHS treatment and clean hospitals and education - which is going down the pan! Funny how the money gets found for the tower!! Tracy(in Gosport) |

Google 'Portsmouth Harbour Eye' and you can see the webcam pictures of the harbour traffic and the tower. I've been taking three (even older) old girls down to sit near the Still and West pub once a week to gawp at it and oversee progress for the last few years! Our little ritual! It's VERY impressive and from TV programmes the view from the viewing floors looks stupendous. But will it ever pay back the council tax payers of Portsmouth and can I psyche myself up to try the view for real I ask myself?! ........ Pass! |

I've watched this progress from our family home on Portsdown Hill. It does look impressive when the afternoon sunshine lights up the shape, but I couldn't believe it when I read that after all that time it still wouldn't be ready to coincide with the Queen's visit and consequent influx of visitors earlier this year. What an opportunity lost to recoup some of the money spent out. I'm glad Mum's rates go to Hampshire, not Portsmouth. |

There was a crew from Meridian TV down there this afternoon making a film to show when it (eventually) opens ..... next Friday ..... the one after that ...... one day! Does anyone know who's going to open it? The film crew didn't know! Perhaps it will just 'open' and they'll have a formal ceremony later?! (Maybe for the next millenium!) Liz |
