A call for vigilance.

While watching the service of Remembrance today I knew that the Cathedral would have been thoroughly searched, and that all security was in place, as it was, no doubt, at Gleneagles. We all know now that the Terrorists did not go for high profile targets, just ordinary people going about their ordinary lives. I ask you all to be vigilant, and to report anything suspicious to the authorities. We talk about the way the British all pull together in a crisis, so it is now up to each one of us, in the interests of our own and Public Safety to be the eyes and ears of the people. I really don't want to lose any one of you.

Grampa, Since the seventies in London I have never lost the habit of sitting with my back to a wall in a public place and being in the best position possible to survey the premises for unattended packages. I regret that I have this habit still nearly 30 years later but after last week's events perhaps it's not a bad habit. Friar

Thanks for your concern Jim. I am sure that for a while we will all be very vigilant (Birmingham last night being a case in point). The danger comes when we all become complacent again. Jean x.

Hi Jim, My son is part of the Grey Escort in todays parade. Police officers at the front and back of the parade all on, obviously, grey horses. He said that security is VERY tight and they were all at a meeting yesterday discussing extra measures. Linda

Thanks Grandpa, you put that very well and I so agree with you we should all look out for each other and treat any situation as a potential security risk and look out for anyone acting suspicious or suspicious packages. I lived through the IRA bombings in London, as so many other people on here have, it was a horrendous time lets not let it happen again. Be vigilant, keep your eyes and ears open and if you see something that does not feel right for Gods sake do something about it - dont think it wont happen to me - it can!! PLEASE KEEP NUDGING THIS FOR EVERYONE TO SEE THIS IS SO IMPORTANT

Jim, You're so right. I hope people will take notice and report suspicious behaviour or suspect, unattended packages. The Police have been advising us to do so for years, and nobody should feel they are immune. I hope people now realise that complacency can be a very dangerous commodity. CB >|<

Couldn't agree more - it is up to the public to watch for abandoned packages/shopping etc. Lived in N. Ireland during the seventies and as a result still don't park my car on a street but in a car park and even in our car port - always lock the car even if I am going out later and we live in a quiet village!
