Every morning my boyfriend gets up before me and leaves when im still in bed, well this morning he smoked half a cigarette and was in a rush, so came in the bedroom and gave it to me (i dodnt usually smoke in the bedroom, but for some reason had it this morning) I cant believe this but as soon as he walked in the front room i fell asleep with it in my hand!!! the next thing i knew he was shouting at me to wake up and as i looked down the ciggie was still in my hand but it was burning the butt! It scared the life out of me, cos i couldve easily dropped it and if he hadnt been there it wouldve caused a fire!! Definaltey not smoking in there again! |

My ex-husband used to place a cig and his lighter on the bedside table before he went to sleep each night. As soon as the alarm went off in the morning he would light the cig (despite me nagging him senseless!!) One day he lit the cig without being fully awake and dropped it, burning, on the carpet. I woke up as it was smouldering. Huge ciggy burn in the Army carpet - which HE had to pay for. He never did it again. |

Please please please get that smoke alarm seen to NOW. So many times we hear of people dying needlessly because the smoke alarm didn't work. Smoke alrms save lives and they don't cost a lot. Most places the local firemen will even come and fit them free. Jane |

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it | Report | 6 Jul 2005 18:08 |
can only tell you this because my dear old Pops isnt here any longer! He didnt like pyjamas so used to sleep in a shirt. He always had to get up in the night for the bathroom & on getting back into bed ,with mum sound asleep beside him, he would light up a fag, He OFTEN dropped off to sleep with the ciggie still alight & so there were many fag burns on the blankets & sheets. Mum used to go mad and often told him ,'one day you are going to cause a fire & burn us alive in our bed' But one night, he lit up again & Yes did his usual drop off to sleep , BUt he soon woke up!! The fag not only burnt thro the sheet, but carried on thro his shirt & burnt his W..lly. He was in agony, & Mum,bless her had no sympathy ,told him he had got his comeuppance.scuse the pun, He Never smoked in bed again Shirley |

I'm a non-smoker now but used to get through 40 a day at one time. Went to sleep in a chair with a lighted one in my hand. It burned all the way through between my fingers before I woke up. Nasty burn. There's thick for you. len |
