Dawn - the time taken for each child varies according to the professionals involved and the individual LEA in your area. Have a look also at my 'special needs' thread on here. The main thing is not to give up - YOU know your child best! Maz. XX

Pleased to hear that Maz. Do you get DLA for him? Anyone who wants help with statementing or any other part of autistic spectrum disorders, including aspergers and adhd - please check out the website adders.org I have a son, now19 with adhd/severe dyslexia/autistic spectrum traits. There a real good bunch of mainly UK people on there who have all worn the tee shirts so long they are used as dusters now and will be more than happy to help. Good luck Maz.

My grandon has Aspergers and has just passed his finals at Victoria Uni in Wellington. He got the top grades, so dont despair. He still has his moments (hes 21) but is able to control his outbreaks. brenda

As some of you know my 7 year old has been undergoing assessment for his Special Needs. Today we had his diagnosis at last! Jamie has a mild Autistic Spectrum Disorder - the nearest match is Asperger's, which is what we had suspected all along. So pleased that now he will not lose his statement and will continue to get the help he needs throughout his school life. Thanks everyone for your support ! Maz. XX
