Hi fellow trekkers, I found this pdf document on the Internet and it has all sorts of info including a 16 week training plan so I thought I would share it with you all. (It might even be from the adventure company that we are going with??) http://www(.)autism-in-scotland(.)org(.)uk/fundraising/overseas/documents/SaharaOpenInfoPack2006(.)pdf Please remove brackets as usual. I was actually looking for info on which boots to buy but couldn't find anything useful so if anyone has any tips they would be welcome! Love Jack (aching after a 4hr trek yesterday!) x

Take your time when deciding on a pair of boots First of all,I got a pair of Berghaus Explorers, they felt fine in the shops.Well im usually a size 5and a half, but when i tried the 6,it was too tight.I tried a 6 and a half and they seemed ok in the shop, but i only wore them briefly as i had the kids with me,but when i brought them home and walked about in them, they were huge. I took them back and got a pair of Scarpa ZG Hiking boots in a size 6 and they fit brilliantly.I went on a 4 hour walk last week wearing them and they were really comfy.(They look nice too lol) That training guide looks good.I need something i can stick to lol. Ive been doing 4 hour walks the last few weekends, but I dont think i would manage an 8 hr one,2 days running lol. Anna :-))

One important note to all you peeps goin' walkabout,do not put your boots on the floor overnight ,and give them a good shake out before putting them on ,scorpions do not like being stepped on ,and retaliate very quickly [ouch],personal recolection,lol.Fred.PtfT&A&G&G&S.

Thanks for the advice Fred and I shall make sure Diana tests my boots for me first! Jack I have Berghaus boots and they are really comfy although I haven't tried them out on any serious terrain yet. Daisy

I think that I am going to search for boots so comfy I will be able to sleep in them as I read about checking for scorpions too! I did a three and a half hour walk around some of Lady Bower reservoir yesterday (in my trainers!) and I really enjoyed it. Really built up my appitite for the pub lunch we had on our way home! Hi Jack I had a look at the training program and its quite interesting, although i am not sure how i am going to manage the long weekend walks...i can't see my 7 year old coping with all that lol !! As for boots, i have Berghaus like Daisy, they are really comfortable and far easier to walk in than trainers, just make sure you get a good fit with them, also don't wear cooton socks with them...they make your feet sweat more and then you are more likely to get blisters...or so i have been told..lol Yvette

Thanks Paul and it appears I did see it and had forgotten to check it out. A senior moment I think! lol Plenty of Guinness in the fridge so do help yourself. I've been told to drink at least one bottle a day to build myself up as I'm a tad underweight (I'm just ducking now as I can feel everyone throwing things at me!!). Daisy

Do you know if there's such a thing as anti-Guinness, as I could do with losing some weight lol
