After hearing some very strange noises in the chimnee I took away the guard and opened the vent and a baby magpie fell out. After a quick chase round the living room I reached it before the Jack Russell did and put it outside. Does this mean bad luck? Mags :( |

I think 8 is a wish and 9 is a kiss. It was just the 1 I was worried about. Glad to hear that babies don't count! Mags :) |

I am not a bit susperstitious I am pleased to say my Mum is because her step mother instilled it in her when she was young. The saluting of a lone magpie was supposed to cause others to fly in your path so you wouldn't be left with the sorrow. I agree with the others the Magpie was in luck and so another side of the superstitious coin is your luck will change because of your kindness, a gypsy would use this, to make you feel inclined to cross their hand with silver. I have tried to test fate by walking under ladders, leaving two spoons on a saucer, not throwing salt over my shoulder when I have spilt it, my Mum looks on in horror. Julie your dad wasn't Irish was he lol. Isn't it 'top of the morning' those Irish in Hollywood say ;-))) Pat x |

I always say Good Morning/Afternoon to a lone magpie, adding 'and how's your lovely wife?' As yours was a baby magpie we must assume he didn't have a lovely wife so it was OK not to ask! (or so my mother-in-law says) LOL Sue xx |
