See one school are after banning skirts to protect childrens modesty. Not taking sides in this matter. Almost fifty years to the day, a local school-girl got nationwide publicity because her mother wanted her to wear trousers at school. Who says the world hasn,t turned on its head? Happy days |

We had to campaign in school for girls to wear trousers in the winter!!! Of course the young ladies modesty would be more protected in they wore regulation length (knee) skirts as part of a uniform instead of trying to customise it by wearing the tiniest skirts they can get away with (just an observation of our local Senior School girls)! Claire ( not as old as I just sounded)! xx |

Roxanne, You are a kill-joy. Navy knickers indeed. Not me you understand, but for the rest of the class as I remember it, half the fun was spotting what colour.............. Happy days, indeed. |

I remember having to wear a skirt, the length no longer or shorter than the knee, and if it was, straight to the headmaster.I would have welcomed wearing trousers especially in winter, my daughter wears trousers and wouldn't wear a skirt, even though they are optional. Heather |

We weren't allowed to wear trousers at school, and I wasn't at school that long ago lol Rather than completely ban skirts, they should ensure that girls only wear ones that cover up the parts that shouldn't be on display. |

The mini skirts were all the go when I was at school, so I went through secondry school wearing a mini skirt. In the winter use to go in trousers and change in the toilets to my skirt. This country has gone mad if you ask me. Yvonne |

Most of the girls these days don't have any modesty left to protect!! Most also wear skirts that are more like belts when they're out of school anyway - things I wouldn't be seen in even if I did have the legs! Kaye x |

Think they should wear what they want as long as it is uniform skirts or trousers. D |

I too went to school in the days of the mini skirt and we weren't even allowed to wear tights let alone trousers........... White ankle or knee High socks and black Lisle stockings in the winter with suspenders. As the school was a tower block with open stairs we never wore the stockings as we had all on pulling the back of our Mini for a Guinnea skirts down to hide our knickers from the boys who had permanent cricks in their necks............ mind you they were very polite, they always stood aside and let you go upstairs first!!!!!!!!! LOL Mandy |

The reason given for the headmistress banning skirts is 'to preserve the modesty of the girls during music and drama lessons'. As one parent said, 'well why not allow them to wear skirts and insist on them taking trousers for those lessons'. I suspect the girls have brought it on themselves by not adhering to the ban on micro skirts, some of them are ridiculously short for school. Also one of the complaints was that the girls would be too hot in trousers for school. (what about boys, I don't see them in skirts? well not normally in England). Also, many of the girls when not in school choose to wear jeans out, they are hot to wear. Maybe the school should look at thin cotton type trousers for summer and thicker for winter. My daughter invariably chose to wear her uniform trousers to school summer and winter (1973 - 1979). Ann Glos |

Girls always had navy blue knickers for PE when I was in junior school, but I couldn't appreciate it much as I was usually doing detention during PE. D |
