For a few days now, I haven't been able to get into Genes on my PC so have been using my laptop. Yesterday I couldn't get into H--mail and Messenger on my laptop so I had to have my laptop and PC on together. (laptop for Genes and PC for messenger and H--mail) I can still read messages on Genes, at the moment. Today I cant read any messages on H--mail, on laptop or PC, so sorry if I dont get back to you. Hairless June xx |

Oh June please don't lob the conputer or if you do make sure you open the window first. Must admit things are very slow on GR was yesterday for me - sitting there holding my breath waiting in anticipation, in the end pulled the plug and said a few choice works - I wish GR would put extra batteries in. June, Don't know whether it is your computer or not but I have been having trouble with Genes for a few days now. It is so slow to load and sometimes just won't. I do wish this site would upgrade or whatever it is you do to improve things. Hang on in there, could be that the fault lies with GC and not your computer. Jean x. |

Aaahhhh Mum I know its frustrating... I am trying to find out how to reformat it for you but no ones answering :-((( Dave - yes I put lavasoft adaware on for Mum but not spybot. We have saved all her documents and pictures etc. so a reformat would be fine. Gaynor (trying hard to find a solution) |

It's definately her pc.... I know Genes is slow sometimes but that's not the problem.... When the page has finished loading it just has a lovely white blank screen... On other sites she can download the page but can't interact i.e. no response to 'send' or 'reply'.... Then on other sites if she clicks the down arrow to make a selection i.e. the LDS site - it just comes up blank with no options. There are so many different things which aren't correct that, seeing as I have backed everything up for her, (documents, pictrures etc) I think it would be easier to re-format the whole thing. June: Start your PC in SAFE MODE and follow directions on Tips Board for PC Maintenance....run Adware while in safe mode as well. Bob: McAfee and AVG are for safekeeping your PC from viruses, not spyware/adware. Spyware and adware can be, though, just as damaging as a virus. Download Adaware and Microsofts Anti-Spyware programs and run them (in safe mode.) I just responded to a query 5 minutes ago on these two programs on my '1 Stop Routine PC Maintenance' thread....take a look, it would be on the last page of the thread. As for having McAfee and AVG, you really only need McAfee....which is the better of the two. AVG's free program is ok if you have no other option for an anti-virus program but it doesn't compare to say Norton or McAfee. (Yes, I'm aware, people will jump in and sing it's praises.....Yes, it does work, yes it does find and remove viruses, but, you get what you pay for.) Judy |

Judy, I didn't get what I paid for with Norton, I was only renewing my subs, which didn't work, rang up for help and got an abnoxious young man, who had a degree in talking down to females. I asked for a refund, which I am still waiting for, my laptop was working fine beforehand but I now cant get onto Yahoo, MSN or H-tmail. Norton sent me a questionaire on their service but I cant get back to H-tmail to reply. Maybe just as well. June xx |

June... On occassion, and this happens with many different program updates, you sometimes have to go directly to the source, ie in this case, Norton's website, for the updates, opposed to just clicking on your Norton icon and clicking on the 'update' button. Shame on their tech support personnel! If you haven't had any luck with getting the Norton updates up to this point, try downloading and running the free version of AVG. Some of the problems you are describing, although sometimes virus related, sounds a lot like adware/spyware problems and maintenance issues. Judy |
