In today's paper a woman has just left £1.2 million to various animal charities rather than her brothers & sister!! What do you think? Good idea? ;-))))))) Joan

I suppose at the end of the day, it all depends whether you got on with the rellies. It is her money to do as she wants with. Unless you know the circumstances it;s hard to say

Of course they may be able to challenge it if they can show that they were close an that maybe she was not of sound mind. I suspect they didn't get on and in the end if she was of sound mind it was her money. Ann Glos

Just depends what her family was like, some of mine would perhaps get something others well less said better. Who knows what goes on behind closed doors Germaine

In the end if she were of sound mind she is entitled to leave her money where she wants. Just because you are related doesn't mean you get on. Christine

It's her money, I suppose, and if she wasn't close to her family maybe it should go to charity. But I can think of a lot more deserving causes than animal charities. Gwynne

May be she received more love and affection from animals than her family. Who knows? At the end of the day it is her money. It is also very noticeable that after a bereavement the scavengers move in - often even where there is very little money involved but each and every one want their 'share'. Ann

I think it is sad in a way because on the surface we can only assume she obviously didn't get on with her family as i'm sure she would have left them something. Having said that we don't know; her family may be stinking rich already and so she felt it better for her money to go to the dogs! instead lol. Margaret

As she had that much to leave, maybe her family are also well off, and she felt they had enough without hers to add to their pile, and eventually to the government in inheritance tax!!

Oh my kind of woman - she obviously did not like her family for some reason - probably did not bother with her when she was alive, but at the end of the day expected everything 'because they are family' Lin

Well it seems the ultimate revenge on family if you don't get on with them!! Perhaps that's where the saying 'gone to the dogs' comes from! LOL!! I'm just nipping down the solicitors now to arrange payback time......Lol!!! ;-)))))) Joan

P.S. Lin sounds like you would like to join me? Wish I had that much to leave!! I think the least she could have done was to leave a memento?? Pair of smelly old socks comes to mind!! LOL!! Joan ;-))

I had a Great Aunt who told my mother that she was thinking of leaving her money to a cats home as she was sick of a certain branch of the family making it clear that they were expecting to inherit it over others. She chose the cats home simply because it would annoy them more than anything else!
