Hi, I think I may have found an ancestor on Familysearch. The record I am looking gives the address for baptism as: Dyninlle Uchaf, Ruabon, Denbigh, Wales. I am okay with the Ruabon, Denbigh, Wales bit, but what does the Dyninlle Uchaf mean? I have tried 'googling' it, but nothing comes up! Any offers. I have this particular ancestor on the 1861 census as being born in ??Garleford, Wales and his wife ?Naffut, Wales. If anybody wants to have a look on the 1861 census, here are the details: John Prince, head, 60, Gardener,............. Harriet Prince, wife, 50, laundress........... Census address, Broad Lane, Cheetham, Manchester. Thanks in advance for your replies. Best wishes Carol.

Not much use, but I do know that 'Uchaf' means higher, as opposed to 'Isaf' which is lower. I don't recognise Dyninlle, but will check in my Welsh dictionary. Of course it could be a family name. nell

Just found these on familysearch: 40. John Prince - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Birth: 04 FEB 1801 Dyninlle Uchaf, Ruabon, Denbigh, Wales 41. James Prince - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Birth: 14 JUN 1802 Dyninlle Isaf, Ruabon, Denbigh, Wales So the Uchaf and Isaf are to differentiate two separate places. nell

Thank you all for your helpful replies. Did anybody manage to take a look at the 1861 census and make out what the ?Garleford? could be. I'm not very good at deciphering writing - although I should be; I work for a doctor!! Thanks and best wishes, Carol.

Frostyboy Denbigh is in Denbighshire, North Wales, not the Rhondda, which is in Glamorganshire. nell nell

Cazzie You might have better luck if you ask someone to check the census on the Records Office board - lots of eager looker-uppers don't visit the gen. topics board. Do you know where John & Harriet got married and when they went to Manchester? nell

Hi, me again! Just looked on 1861 ancestry and wonder now if it might be GRESFORD, as this is in Denbighsire? Might be on a winner here!! Thanks, Carol. Hi Nell, only just noticed your reply. Will go on to the records/tips board and this also. Don't know when John and Harriet got married, but they were living in Manchester by 1841 with 5 children, the eldest being christened on 16.02.1834 in Manchester. Thank you Carol.
