Think back two hundred years to your ancestors. Can we find 100 things they didn,t have, which are essential to us - or things they had and didn,t want (I remember flies being everywhere even in my younger day). Then could I have ten things they had, which we might wish for (block capitals for those please if you can think of any). Have a think and then count your blessings. happy days |

Thanks folks. Particularly liked the one in capitals, although I don,t think many of my city dwellers heard the birds singing. Twenty per cent of me agree ABOUT THE WOMANS PLACE. The other 80 sides with my mother who spent the last 60 years of her life bemoaning that she never had a 'proper' job and that she was worth more than 'just' being a housewife. happy days |

Harry I appreciate that you are trying to make amends for your earlier politically incorrect statement but JUST a housewife.... I did go to work as did a lot of 'housewives' ...part time jobs while kids were at school etc. Most 'housewives' are also financial managers, chefs, teachers (of children), d.i.y experts, plumbers, etc, etc, etc, as well as being home managers, cleaners and having the ability to multi task!!!!! JUST A HOUSEWIFE..... I DON'T THINK SO..... Harry this is very tongue in cheek so please don't take offense! A bathroom with hot and cold running water (I can remember the old tin bath) Electricity (just been 6 months without....not funny!) |

Thanks girls. Did put 'just' in inverted comma. My mothers expression not mine. She worked like a slave to bring up four of us , despite illness and poverty, but in her day it was infra dig for women to work. happy days |

I make that 49 to 4. Many thanks. What about scarletfever; diptheria; decent pain killers; dentists - my parents used a piece of string tied to the door on me, and that was a bit less than 200 years ago. happy days |
