Twice this week I've woken up (from what seems like) in the middle of a dream so I can remember what was happening etc. But becasue of this, it feels like I've been awake for the past however long the dream lasted. Obviously I haven't, but it feels like my mind has been tricked into thinking it, making me more drowsy. Know what I mean? |

I often wake up worn out from nocturnal activity!!! My dreams are tiring, I feel I have run that marathon, swum that ocean or whatever. Sometimes I dream that my hubby has not helped me in some way, in a dream. Then I wake up cross with him , poor man just says ' what am I supposed to have done now? !! I say - when I remember I'll tell you! GRRRR... I can remain quite irritated with him for being bad in a dream for an hour or two. Joan. |

If i am dreaming about Hugh Jackman i wake up exhausted Daniel ;-)) Seriously though, i think it depends on the dream, good ones are ok, but a nightmare you can't wake from leaves me shattered all day. Yvette |

I dream a lot. Or should that be I remember mostn of my dreams. I thought you only remembered a dream if you woke up in the middle of one. So I must wake up a lot. I know dreams affect my mood the next day too. If I've been bad tempered, angry or upset in a dream then that is what I wake up like. Jane |

The normal is 5 dreaming periods a night. People who do not remember their dreams awake refreshed and imagine their sleep has been dreamless. If there have been too few or no dreaming periods (as after taking sleeping pills) the person is not refreshed and feels like a zombie. Dreams are usually remembered when one wakes during them therefore the the most valuable sleep period is interrupted. Experiments have been done with the sleeper connected to EEC machines and, when dreaming is detected (also indicated by Rapid Eye Movement - REM), they have been woken. If this is continued and they are deprived of REM sleep for several days, mental disintegration appears. Dreams that are remembered for more than an hour or so indicate something that has yet to be resolved is bothering the person at a subconscious level. Recurring dreams usually mean that a subconscious dilemma, possibly going back to childhood, needs to be confronted and come to terms with. Len |

Joan Your poor hubby, who is probably your nearest and dearest, is most likely getting the thick end of the stick because of someone else, earlier in your life, who should have supported you but failed to do so - in your judgement. Your subconscious is probably still niggling about it and saying 'you didn't support me when I needed you' and your old man is right there when you wake up. Len |

Len, You seem to know quite a lot about dreams so maybe you could explain a recurring dream theme of mine? I often dream of small animals eg: hamsters, birds, mice, kittens etc being harmed, mistreated, decapitated and slaughtered. These dreams are very lucid ( as are all my dreams) and quite disturbing. As an animal owner and lover I would like to know the symbolism behind this phenomena as I too wake up feeling both exhausted and distraught. Pam |
