that fella on Richard and Judy the other day, whilst doing his family history ... he thinks he may have found that his grandfather or grt grandfather was the infamous 'Jact the Ripper' how weird is that?? Anybody infamous in your family ancestry?

Since nobody knows who Jack the Ripper was I don't see how he can be related to him. I know there are many theories about Jack's identity, but as far as I am aware, there is no definite proof. nell

I take it you didnt see the program then? That is the whole point .. nobody knows who he was .. he has to be somebodies relative.. It is pretty convincing stuff.

I find that so hard to believe Sally, With such convincing evidence as he produced, How can they not re-open it. If things had been different.. and they never caught the 'yorkshire ripper'.. does that mean they wouldnt re-open that case??? Ok it was over 100 years ago ... but?? does it mean then no one is bothered??

I so totally agree with you Sally. People need to know who it was.. not just historians but like you say .. the descendants of those women. I would love to speak to this fella about his search.. I would of fell of my chair if i had found something like that.

like i said above, Roxanne, If you never saw the program then you would ask the same question you are asking. If you did see it, then you wouldnt ask that question. i will give you the background, I do understand all the sceptism, But look at what he has.. He has proof (letters) that his gr grandfather knew.. all but one of the victims (maybe all) He was a well known Doctor working with the Royals, He had a surgery in whitechaple, his diary has hundreds of pages in.. from about 1870.. upto about 1900, The only year missing is . ... .. . . 1888..... the pages have been torn away. When he started researching his family history he went to the records office (i think) in south wales who had some things belonging to his grt grandfather, In amoungst these things was a box. inside the box was a large knife!! Some institutions in England have asked for it to be released so they can carry out DNA on the knife but so far the Welsh office has refused. So it is either. .. another scam on the scale of Hitlers diaries.....Or........Well, I am pretty sure now it is out in the open alot more will be heard about it.

who would pay for a new investigation? We have a shortage of police haven't we? There are so many more recent unsolved murders so not sure how after all this time they could even find any definite proof. Or have they something for DNA testing in storage? Jane

Jane Report 23 Apr 2005 14:41

Sorry Andy! I'm not sure I'd want to know or not if an ancestor was a murderer to this degree. Then again we all like to find something different. I suppose he could get DNA tests if he paid? Wonder how much that would cost.

Didn't see the program Andy, but strange things do crop up. I am a Philpott and I have been contacted by a lady in Seattle who thinks she can prove that we are related to William Walworth the Lord Mayor of London who slew Wat Tyler. She is coming over here next week and I hope to meet up with her to see what she has. Magsxx
