I think it's shocking that we have to pay to park at the hospital anyway to be honest. Cost me a fortune when the mother in law had her stroke last year...

It is disgraceful to charge people that kind of money. ITS A HOSPITAL! No one goes there for day out! Deanna

When it was free to park at a local hospital some of the cars were there all day. Apparently it was cheaper to do that and catch the link bus into town, where parking was a problem. We did have a 30 minute area where you could park if you were just for example dropping in a blood sample but who can normally use these spots? It takes much of that time to negotiate the miles of corridors down here.

We have that too. Possibly same hospital? Apparently, they have to charge that because an outside company runs the car park. Hardly any of the money actually goes back to the hospital. Absolutely rediculous if you ask me!

gloucester can't have free parking because people would park there to go to the shops or the station, both in walking distance. so it is selfish people who cause the charges not the hospital. Ann Glos

one of our near by hospitals charges £2 for the first hour with half hourly rates after that £20 for 6 hours and over / daily rates the local one ONLY charges ... The charges are £2.00 for the first hour and then 50 pence for each additional hour up to a daily maximum of £8.00 BUT .......... Did you know? If you are on certain types of benefit, you may be entitled to help with your travel costs. Please ask department staff or staff in the cashiers office for more details. If you are eligible, you will need to bring proof of benefit, proof of travelcosts and an authorised confirmation from the department that you have attended. copied from local hospital website.

The lack of space in hospital car parks is another problem. The latest answer here is to charge more for staff to park in the hope they will use public transport or car share. I just wonder how many buses run that early to get them to work or late at night when a lot finish their shift. I know it cost us a bit the last couple of times I was in hospital for car parking when my husband came to visit. I was always so grateful to see a visitor too. In fact they are really what you need. Sad if people can't manage to get to see friends and relatives because the costs of parking puts them off. Jane

I work at the local hospital and the nurses have to pay a standard charge every year for a 'season ticket' to enable them to park ,,,but thats if they can find a space at all, The car parking is a nightmare, Some of my friends have had to park right away from the main building in quite a desolate and isolated area simply because the car park isnt big enough. This is quite nerve racking when they come off duty at 10pm and have to walk back to their cars.

I read in the local paper a few months ago that the world famous 'Christie Hospital' for cancer sufferers in Manchester was going to put its car parking charges to £10 per day. What an awful burden on people visiting desperately sick friends and relatives! Dave
