My daughter is school meals supervisor and she has had to cut school meals staff hours down because they are not selling enough dinners since this Programme,so people are starting to lose money and maybe jobs in a bit.The children are taking packed lunches what their parents make them which mostly are full of chocolate and Dairylee lunchables which are full of things should not eat either AAAAHHHHH! Dave, it is a flash in the pan at the moment, do not worry about it, school dinner will be up to scratch by September. I am sorry to say this but I think he is doing some good, the things my children eat are fine but it is potatoes with everything even curry, may I remind everyone that pot are not one of the 5 veg and fruits you are suppose to eat a day. So why pots every day is beyond me the portions are really small mind you they are only 4 and 6 but if I was paying £1.50 a day for a 8 yr old I would wonder if it was enought for them.

Terri, you are lucky mine will eat pasta but it is strange as they have spag bol in school but if I make it they will not eat it. Same goies for a few other things. I read in the paper last week that the govement are spending x million on getting school dinner up to scratch but why? Cannot they not rearrange what they do know and make it more healthy why the extra cost or am I missing something

I am Lunch time supervisor, and I have to say every year after Easter lots of children. leave the dinners and go onto home packed lunches.. Sometimes there are only about 40 children having school dinners. Our cook is not a fan of Jamies. Pat

the school where my girls go is great, they cook everything from scratch - even the bread, the odd thing though, the only sauce they buy in bolognese!! hmmmmm

My childrens school doesn't have cooked school dinners, their canteen was made into a IT suite. I think a number of lincolnshire schools are the same. Shame.

lisa one of the reason y government r having to spend money on improving school meals is because its much cheaper to buy chicken nuggets and burger than it is to provide fresh ( or frozen) veg and proper meat

I agree with you but our school (junior) does not have chicken nuggets etc well only once a week.

Thought I would put my pennies worth in, I actually live in the London Borough Of Greenwich, where Jaime was working, in the TV program, and all I can say... is thank goodness for Jaime, he has worked really hard, in the schools, with the children, teachers and the council, I am not a fan of our council, but they have increased the meal allowance from 37p per child to 50p. The council are also employing 60 more dinner people to 'train up' even the teachers eat the dinners, and all the children really love the dinners they get now, no one eats pack lunches, and that though choice. I have two granddaughters at one school and a 17 year old at another, so, I know its not just the odd school. I say well done. Jamie, you deserve a medal for what you have done, and..... the children are much better behaved, and concentrate on their lessons more, so, how can that be bad. Jamie rules I say!! lol....... Lilly

My 6 year old is at a school where the school dinners are brought in and after being on sandwiches since starting school she decided after christmas she wanted hot dinners, we agreed, but she kept coming home saying it wasnt healthy. The meals served up were CHIPS and pork pie!! CHIPS and ? Chips and ? get my drift. The school recently got a healthy award!! dont know what for, other than they provide a water bottle for every child!! I own a childrens nursery and our menu Jamie would love, the babies get brought up with the healthy food and its then the parents choice to let them have treats, like chips/crisps/chocolate when it suits them if they deem its necessary. Hope I dont sound like Im preaching. (I do eat, chips, chocolate and crisps!!) Liz

my boys have only ever had school dinners our school cooks things like macoroni cheese and meatballs and rice they do have chips and veggies they also get the choice of fresh fruit for pudding. I think that it is some of the parents that need educating in food not the kids they will eat what ever they are given by their parents if they see them eating it as well and are encouraged to try new things. My boys will always moan about something we have for dinner but they always try new things and as they get older their taste is widening.some of their favourites are feta cheese houmous tacos aswell has good old roast dinner. I think jamie oliver should take over the whole school dinner issue and maybe future kids & adults wont be so blinkered.
